On CNN last night Axelrod speculated that Trump should let Cruz win Texas uncontested so he hangs around longer in a 3 way as it may be more advantages to Trump in the long run.

Axlegrease is a genius in my book.

He got Baraq elected twice, and the second time was really miraculous given how bad things were after 4 years.

If Axlegrease is being honest here, that’s probably right.

Letting Cruz win Texas might be a good strategy to preserve the 3-way race, but Trump would never pass up the chance to win. He wants to beat all of the remaining candidates (save Carson) in their home states.

As it stands now, Trump has enough support to be beat Cruz and Rubio but if either drops out there is some question about who their supporters break to; if they break the wrong way Trump could find himself in a race with the one still in. So from his perspective, he's better off having them split those supporters and win with a plurality than have one drop out and have to get an outright majority to take out the other.

For Cruz, this is an opportunity. In Trump's language, he has "leverage". Might be time to start thinking about making a deal.
