Cruz never had any issues until he began to attack Trump. That was his biggest mistake.

He didn't attack Trump. By virtue of his increasing standing in the race, Trump began to attack him, first. That was a pre-emptive strike by Trump, carefully measured to stop Cruz before he became a serious threat. It took a long time for Cruz to respond, but eventually, he had to end the bro-mance that he had crafted to avoid exactly that situation.

Well, Cruz had his infamous "who do you trust with their finger on the button" remark when talking about problems that Trump and Carson would face. Relatively mild, in my opinion. But that to me seems to be what started this whole thing. That's what ended the little bit of alliance there was between the two.

Cruz stuck out a little jab with his left hand and Trump started throwing haymakers, uppercuts, and combos back.
