Fox's Chris Wallace sees Trump winning Sanders voters, driving Hillary 'nuts'

Paul Bedard

Claiming he thought Donald Trump's initial support was simply a "summer fling," Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace now believes the businessman is a viable candidate and one who could even win the backing of Sen. Bernie Sanders voters.

What's more, Wallace told the National Association of Counties convention meeting in Washington that he'd pay cash to see Trump debate Hillary Clinton because the Republican would make the Democrat "nuts."

Asked if he felt Trump is viable, Wallace told a questioner "Yes I do." Wallace added, "I thought it's a summer fling. He had this rise in the polls, and it wasn't a summer fling. It continued, it continues now."

Wallace said that victory for Trump isn't assured and that he needs to both expand his base and act more presidential.

But if he wins, and Clinton beats Sanders, he sees Trump winning some of the Democratic-Socialist's supporters.

"Were he to win the nomination, a lot of people on the Sanders side who are feeling that same frustration, the same sense of income inequality, the same sense that there's an inside game, that they are playing in, that the rich guys are playing in but the average folks are not, I think a lot of those people are potential Trump supporters," said Wallace.

And he is tickled at the possibility of a Trump-Clinton matchup.

"I would pay money to see Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on a campaign debate stage, I would literally pay my own money to see that because I think that he would drive her nuts," he said.

Did I call this or did I call this? I said three weeks ago when I saw the polling data on CBS and QPoll that 15-20% of the Dems were placing “jobs” and “economy” as #1 issue. These are not welfare queens. They are potential Trump voters.

Why not? Even Trump can’t tell the difference between them.

I think Chris Wallace is right hear. Surveying the internet after Bernie's Nevada defeat, there's a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth by Bernie supporters. They hate Hillary with a passion, they hate that she's a crony and a phony who pretends to care about regular people, and most especially, they HATE the way the DNC nomination is set up. Most of them were totally unaware of what a super delegate was until the first election night when the polls closed and Hillary instantly got delegates.

So, they are completely disaffected with the process and ready to light themselves on fire in protest. I guarantee they will vote for Trump purely out of spite, "racist" message and all, because they feel shut out of the process.

Bernie is capturing the same anti-establishment wave on the Democrat side that we see with Trump on the Republican side. Regardless how how this turns out for the Democrats, Shrillary is weakened considerably. The New Hampshire blowout was an utter humiliation for her and we will see similar Bernie blowouts in other states, such as Colorado and Vermont (where he is leading her 83-17 in a recent poll). Yes, she will likely pull out the nomination but she's not going to have the enthusiastic support of the under 30 demographic.

Even Nevada was a Pyrrhic victory for her. Only about 6,600 votes in a statewide caucus and a 5 percent margin? That's pretty embarrassing when she was 40 points ahead in that state a few months ago.

So in the general, look for Trump to peel off a lot of those anti-establishment voters from the Democrat side. Not sure what the hard core Bernie people will do but they probably aren't going to vote for Shrillary. Most likely they will vote third party.

If Hillary uses her superdelegates to steal the nomination from Bern, then some of the Sanders Socialists will vote for Trump in revenge.

Good call on those who are working and those who lost jobs and want to work instead of being unemployed. As you noted, they are not welfare queens.

I think your number is LOW, and by a lot. I am in the Liberal enclave of greater Los ANgeles area, and at least 30-40% of the Liberal Democrats I talk to are behind TRUMP 100%. the issue are simple Immigration and Trade.

Unless Bernie runs as a third party candidate, which would be even BETTER, as that would counter all of the butthurt Cruz losers who will be staying home in November, sucking their thumbs in protest.

I noticed a softening Wallace in his interview with Trump on Sunday.

I assume Steve Hayes is on suicide watch and they’ve refused to allow Krauthammer to be the psychiatrist attending because of his acceptance of mercy euthanasia.

3 Things end any discussion about whether or not this is over:

1 March Trump takes down Cruz in Texas
12 March Trump takes down Rubio in Florida
15 March Trump takes down Kasich in Ohio

If Trump thinks outside the box and names Bernie his VP he will secure the general election.

For Trump -It's all about the winning.

Trump is the only unhyphenated American who is viable.

H is vagina-ed- American

Cruz and Rubio are Cuban- Americans.

Bernie is Communist-American.

Trump is full blood American! No hyphen needed.

Obama is God only knows? But not American.

There needs to be a big push to get these people a third party. It would decimate the Democrats.
