Among South Carolina Republicans who preferred above all else a candidate “who tells it like it is,†77 percent voted for Donald J. Trump.
That is astonishing, given that Donald Trump’s entire life has been an extended exercise in deception.
Start with his wealth. How much is Donald Trump worth? $1.7 billion? $6 billion? “TEN BILLION DOLLARS,†as he claimed in his presidential filing? Tim O’Brien, then a reporter for the New York Times, wrote in his book TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald, that in one 24-hour period, Trump claimed two different net worths differing by $3.3 billion. He has never permitted an independent, third-party audit of his finances. The closest anyone has come is Deutsche Bank, which in 2005 estimated that Trump was worth . . . $788 million. Several sources with knowledge of Trump’s finances have put the number significantly lower.
And Trump has admitted to lying about his wealth. “Have you ever exaggerated in statements about your properties?†he was asked during a deposition in the mid 2000s. “I think everyone does,†Trump replied. “Does that mean that sometimes you’ll inflate the value of your properties in your statements?†the lawyer followed up. Trump: “Not beyond reason.â€

Then there are Trump’s lies about his personal life.
How was it that the star athlete at the New York Military Academy received a deferment for bone spurs in both heels? And how is it that those maladies seem to have disappeared, a miracle otherwise unknown in medical history?
Presumably Trump’s affair with Marla Maples during his marriage to his first wife involved some serious deception, as did the affairs he claims to have had with married women. (Or is he lying about those affairs?)

Yeah, I had to scrape some National Review off the sole of my shoe this morning.
Time to face up to facts. Trump supporters are at the top of Mt. Sinai, the flames they see are his hair and everything that spews from his mouth (today, not yesterday) is gospel.
Neither will the Trump bashers as they roll like dogs on what comes out of National Review nowadays.
NRO digs deeper...towards complete irrelevance. I stopped reading when that douche Lowry fired the brilliant John Derbyshire for being un-P.C. on race. The board better fire Lowry if they see any hope for a future with the once-vaunted publication.
The net worth issue is fascinating. Do you suppose that’s why he won’t release his tax records? Also, is that why he is so available for free media anytime anywhere? He is self funding his campaign, but with a net worth of less than one billion there is no way he can afford a traditional campaign.

Unless you liquidate all assets net worth is always subjective. There's plenty of disagreement over the appraisal of a $400,000 house in a development with fifty identical properties. Try coming up with a firm number for Trump Tower. Can't be done. Only way to know is to sell it, and that gives you its value at closing. A day sooner or later and it might have been different. Considerably so if some event intervenes.
But for the record I estimate Trump's net worth at around eleven million bars of gold pressed latinum.
Maybe he was lying when he said awful things about Fiona, and wouldn;t apologize. Just what we need, another individual infatuated with himself and his buildings, casinos.
