Trump: I'm not sure Rubio is eligible for presidency
CNN Politics ^ | February 21, 2016 | Eric Bradner

Donald Trump says he's not sure whether Marco Rubio is eligible for the presidency.

And Rubio says it's just the latest in a line of Trump's "outrageous" comments designed to suck up media attention.

Rubio is a U.S. citizen who was born in Miami. He is, in fact, eligible for the presidency -- even though his parents migrated from Cuba.

But Trump stirred controversy on Saturday by retweeting a message suggesting that neither Rubio nor Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada to a U.S. citizen mother, meet the constitutional requirements for the Oval Office....

His parents were not US citizens at the time of his birth. I do not care if they were here legally with a work permit or a travel visa... in my book that makes him an anchor baby.

noun: anchor baby; plural noun: anchor babies

used to refer to a child born to a noncitizen mother in a country which has birthright citizenship, especially when viewed as providing an advantage to family members seeking to secure citizenship or legal residency.

"Not me, if Cruz is out I’m going with Rubio. Rubio has never done anything except talk and have his snout in the public trough. Well, he did try to sell out the country with amnesty.

You ask why Donald Trump doesn’t question Obama’s claim to natural born citizenship. He did. Not one major GOP politician stood with him. Not one of the Bush family, not McCain, not Romney, not Rubio, not Cruz, not Kasich, not Rove, not Boehner, not Ryan, not McConnell, not Dole, not Cheney. All stood with Barry Sotero and backed his eligibility.

Consider also that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell almost certainly knew the truth about Obama. If he wasn’t eligible, and they knew it, they are guilty of treason. If he was eligible, they did the right thing by backing up Obama.

I intend to vote for Cruz in the March 1 primary but if I eventually have to choose between Trump and Rubio, I will be a Trump man.

Ditto.

And they were exempted by the part after the first comma because they knew if would be at least 35 years until there could be natural born citizens.

**********************************

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Rubio is a U.S. citizen who was born in Miami. He is, in fact, eligible for the presidency -- even though his parents migrated from Cuba.

The last time a mere "citizen" was eligible was in the event they were born prior to adoption of the Constitution. None are known to still be alive.

The adoption of the Constitution has two arguable dates, either the ratification by the required ninth state of New Hampshire on June 21, 1788, or, March 4, 1789 when the first Congress convened and the Articles of Confederation were dissolved. On or after either of those dates our first Natural Born Citizens were born and would finally become eligible for the Office of President in 1823 or 1824 at 35 years of age, bypassing the Grandfather clause.

The last mere citizen President through the grandfather clause was Zachary Taylor who was born prior to adoption. He actually followed the first two Natural Born Citizen Presidents Tyler and Polk. Tyler of course was not elected but succeeded Harrison, so James K. Polk was our first elected NBC President.

In theory, between 1888 and 1889 there may have been a couple of 100 year old mere citizen potential candidates left alive, but not for much longer I think.

CNN is full of crap, as is Marco Rubio, the anchor baby who is even less qualified than Dumbo was ( Barry was born to one foreign parent whereas Marco was born to two ). Only the stupid (R)epublicrat party could be expected to meet and surpass the anti-Constitutional efforts of the (D)ummycrat party of eight years prior. Next time around maybe they can offer up a gay or transgender Scientologist of Iranian and a Libyan parents born in Syria.

Just as predicted here for months.

You're a regular Nostradamus! It's not a stretch to imagine someone at FreeRepublic defending the Constitution against know-nothings at CNN and elsewhere.

"As you tRump people are always telling us, nobody’s perfect." I agree that they are all flawed. I also think someone who runs for the most powerful position in the world out to have accomplished something, somewhere and sometime. What has Rubio done, other than talk and take public money - and not that for long. Conservatives in FL hate him.

“we must must must, all of us (unless you prefer Rubio) unite behind Trump.”

I’ve voted for many liberal democrats in my life, I didn’t realize it at the time as they ran as conservative Republicans. I don’t do that anymore nor do I vote for someone I believe is mentally unstable. I’ll not be voting for Trump.

Neither of Rubio’s parents were US citizens when he was born, even though they’d had lots of time to apply. So,by the 14th amendment he’s an anchor baby citizen, but his parents were yearning to return to Cuba probably.

I would hope both senators would welcome the chance to have the courts settle it once and for all and then NO ONE can bring it up again.

Why on earth was this not an issue when O was running. The scoundrel.

Barry Sotero is natural born. In Honolulu to Stanley Ann Dunham, and Frank Marshall Davis. The real BC says that. IMHO. Forget the Kenya stuff. Stalin loving Davis is the real scandal.

That's the only way that Barry is NBC, if born in Hawaii on or after August 21, 1959, and if baby-daddy was a citizen.

Still two big ifs and that is precisely the problem.

Naturally the (R)epublicrat stupid party could be counted on not only to ignore those facts and let him slide into the most powerful office in the land, but to take it even further with at least six more questionable cases of our very own.

Man, we're awesome!
