I think you may miss the point of wealth. Only psychologically defective people peg their happiness to their standing relative to others. The point of wealth is to live a happy life.

I may have been a little short in my answer to you. I apologize.
My opinion is that wealth is not essential for a happy life. Health is, though. Enough to eat, a warm and secure place to sleep. Someone to love you; some people to care. A warm puppy, or in my case, four.
That’s all you really need. Money can make you more comfortable

Rockefeller couldn’t buy what we have now because they didn’t exist. But if they had, he could have afforded them. Still people who make great wealth generally do so, IMO, because they do peg their happiness on their standing relative to others. While I’m sure their are many exceptions. Let’s face it, there are a lot of psychologically defective people out there.
