Legendary NY Republican rips party for not backing Trump
New York Post ^ | February 8, 2016 | Fredric U. Dicker

Donald Trump has won the backing of a legendary New York Republican — who also blasted his own state party’s failure to rally behind the candidacy of its “favorite son’’ presidential hopeful.

“You have in Donald Trump a tremendous New York businessman with thousands of employees, a man who helped remake Manhattan for the better, and one who was always there with a contribution when we needed him to back us,” former state GOP Chairman Bill Powers told The Post.

Powers said he feared Trump was already angry enough at the New York GOP that if he becomes president he’ll deny the party the rewards of having power.

Powers, meanwhile, said that if Trump becomes the GOP nominee he hoped he would pick Fla. Sen. Marco Rubio as his running mate.

Powers also said he would “never’’ support Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who has criticized Trump’s “New York values’’

Bill Powers is a New York RINO who caused a lot of harm to the NY GOP with his ideology-free campaigns and candidates.

For example, the New York Republicans almost lost Row B when Pierre Rinfret ran for governor, chosen by the honchos over Herb London (who was also the Conservative nominee.) But Rinfret coudl self-finance, so he was a GREAT choice!

I'm not at all surprised that his idea of a great ticket is Trump-Rubio.

To me Rubio is a non-starter, period.

My take away is this guy is not one of us.

It is still undeniable the impact Trump had on that area. It was very good.

Rubio is damaged goods. How damaged remains to be seen.

I don’t think it’s good.

Trump is the perfect candidate for RINOs. His trip back to the left won’t take as long if they have their way and he gets to start making his esoteric deals.

People hold up Ronald Reagan as the ultimate conservative. There is no such thing. Everyone makes compromises.

Ronald Reagan’s liberal actions:

In 1950 Reagan helped raise money
for democrat Helen Gahagan Douglas
against Richard Nixon for California senator.

In 1966, Reagan put together a campaign group
to run for California governor. They were
Phil Battaglia, Casper Weinberger and Jack Warner.
They were all from the liberal Rockefeller wing of
the Republican party, not the conservative Goldwater wing.

1970 as governor, Reagan appointed Donald Wright as the
Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. Wright’s
court later found the death penalty unconstitutional in California.

1972 Reagan supported the re-election of President Richard Nixon instead of giving support to conservative Republican candidate John Ashbrook, who ran an effort
to dump Nixon.

As California Governor, Reagan used his own office funds to keep the Office of Economic Opportunity alive in the state and he tried to make California the first state to create its own consumer affairs dept.

1976 in his presidential run against Gerald Ford, Reagan chose the most liberal Republican Senator in the senate, Richard Schweiker as his vice presidential running mate. In 1980, he chose another liberal running mate
George HW Bush.

1985 Reagan, as president, spent $5-billion to bail out the Continental Bank of Illinois. He also added
$9-billion to the International Monetary Fund so Mexico, Brazil and Argentina could pay the interest on
their big debts to the American banks. At the same time, he would not bail out American farmers.

Reagan’s 4th year budget was $141-billion more than Carter’s 4th year budget. Reagan’s total deficits for 4 years was 4-times the total of Carter’ 4-year total deficits.

Reagan increased the national debt in 4-years as much as all the presidents from Hoover to Carter did.

Reagan Supported the Brady Gun Bill in a speech at George Washington University in 1991.

Rubio better not come in second tonight then. Actually I hope Trump picks a VP outside of the candidates. I have a feeling he might pick a governor not running....Walker would be better then those running right now. I sorta wish it could be Trump/Carson, but darn Carson is too quiet....although maybe a good opposite of Trump......thoughts?

Trump / Chelsea Clinton

Makes the 35 year old requirement.

Less conservative than Rubio.

But considering her mother, there may be questions about ‘Natural Born’ (hatched, perhaps).

Ed Cox is MUCH worse than Powers ever was and that is one reason why the N.Y. GOP is in such a sorry state.

Cox is a GOPEer and could have/should have had a slate of good candidates to go up against the VERY sorry DEM slate for mayor of NYC, which that POS de Blasio eventually won.

And lest not even talk about the disgusting mess of the last Fed Senate run.

Whoever the Guy is, he wants to put New York in play rather than just handing it to the DemoncRats on a Silver Platter like we always do.

Rubio isn’t even liked much, by New Yorkers of any stripe.
And he isn’t a NBC.

It will be interesting who he picks.

He seems to have a connection to Sessions, but I have no idea if that will blossom in time.

I do not want a full blown RINO like Rubio, Bush, or now even the other idiot.

With Trump as “the guy”, I think New York is in play.

That’s probably what this guy means to you, and I agree.

This is a very strange year.

Apparently, Powers likes NY values and amnesty.
