There was a surgeon in Boston (5-10 years ago?) that left a patient on the table in the middle of an operation to go cash/deposit a check.
Even though he returned to finish the operation, the various licensing boards were not amused. Probably his insurance carrier too. And the hospital's carrier.

She took an oath to do no harm. She did harm with great stupidity. Take away her medical license so she’ll have no dying patients.
