The password for the San Bernardino shooter's iCloud account associated with his iPhone was reset hours after authorities took possession of the device.
The Justice Department acknowledged in its court filing that the password of Syed Farook's iCloud account had been reset. The filing states, "the owner [San Bernardino County Department of Public Health], in an attempt to gain access to some information in the hours after the attack, was able to reset the password remotely, but that had the effect of eliminating the possibility of an auto-backup."
Apple could have recovered information from the iPhone had the iCloud password not been reset, the company said. If the phone was taken to a location where it recognized the Wi-Fi network, such as the San Bernardino shooters' home, it could have been backed up to the cloud, Apple suggested....

Someone sent me a message earlier saying the FBI did it. I think we are still in the "fog of war" aspect of this latest development. It might take awhile before we get a better handle on what actually happened.
Beats me. There seems to be a lot of fuzzy “facts” orbiting around this particular case.
It made me recoil when I heard his employer reset the phone hours after the attack.
"...targeted a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event and holiday party, of about 80 employees, in a rented banquet room. Farook was an American-born U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, who worked as a health department employee."
All very strange.
The male terrorist worked for the County.
That was evidence directly associated to a mass murder terrorist attack. Those folks at the County shouldn’t have never made changes to that device, remotely or otherwise.
Doesn't make sense.
San Bernardino shooting: Farook tied to jihadist recruiter, officials say
FBI Director James Comey told a Senate hearing Wednesday the agency has found online discussions about jihad between Farook and Malik from late 2013, before they began dating. Investigators have found data on a tablet computer and other cell phones at the couple's home, he said.
The FBI is still trying to recover information from two smashed cell phones found in a garbage can near the home.
So many phones. And do you have a link/article stating it is a phone provided by his job?
No, resetting the password allegedly blocks them from regaining data. Not sure I buy it.
And? Evidence is evidence. Even if it was provided to him by the County it should never have been removed from evidence.
Don't you agree?
He was a County employee. I’m thinking when the county did this, the FBI was standing right behind them.
its Chinatown...
So, was the Password changed or was the Phone bricked?
Why state home instead of work as a location where it recognized the Wi-Fi network? Wouldn't that be more logical if it were a "work issued" cell phone?
Simple, the county has other extremists working as Syed Confederates and didn’t want them found out.
My first reaction was that the employer is protecting himself from whatever might be on that phone. He might not have any idea what’s there, just making sure.
Trump is asking people to boycott Apple. Maybe this is an attempt to shift blame away from Apple.
I say ValJAr made 'em do it to protect herself....
Judge Forces Apple to Help Unlock San Bernardino Shooter iPhone
After the shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, authorities said they recovered several cell phones Farook and Malik had tried to destroy and had dropped in a waste bin. The iPhone referenced in the judge's ruling was found in a black Lexus belonging to Farook's family.
The iPhone is owned by Farook's employer, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, which assigned it to him. The county consented to investigators' requests to search its contents.
So it was "found", taken into evidence (???) and then investigators turned it over to the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health before anything is discovered and an employee there FUBARed it?
Something doesn't smell right.
Does that help?
