I'm Voting for Donald Trump. Here's Why.
The Huffington Post ^ | Jan 13, 2016 | Jesse Jackman

I'm voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential primary.

-snip-

Not this time.

-snip-

Should Bernie Sanders become the nominee, the data is similar: Sanders leads Trump and trails Rubio (although he is running slightly ahead of Cruz). So for either Democratic candidate, Trump proves to be the most favorable -- and desirable -- matchup.

Moreover, should Donald Trump earn his party's nomination, some GOP strategists fear that some Republican voters would be so disenchanted with (or appalled by) Trump that they might not vote in the election at all, leading to down-ticket victories for the Democrats by attrition. This theory is supported by veteran Republican political pundit Karl Rove, in an editorial he penned for last week's Wall Street Journal:

If Mr. Trump is its standard-bearer, the GOP will lose the White House and the Senate, and its majority in the House will fall dramatically. If the nominee is Ted Cruz, the situation is still dicey. Any of the other major candidates, if nominated, will best Mrs. Clinton in a close race and help the GOP narrowly keep the Senate.

-snip-

I disagree with Donald Trump ideologically in virtually every respect. I believe that his policies and proposals would ruin the strength and integrity of our great nation, undermine the fundamental tenets of our democracy, and make us the laughing stock of the international community (except, perhaps, for Vladimir Putin). But no matter what you think of him, one thing's for certain: Donald Trump is a polarizing figure who is not just divisive across liberal and conservative lines, but within the Republican Party itself.

Which is exactly why, on March 1, I'm voting for Donald Trump.

I support Ted Cruz.

I don’t have to now support Huffington Post, CNN or The Slate to do that.

I also don’t have to attack Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin or James Dobson, either.

I am able to support Cruz without changing my views on a lot of things: “pro-life” is still not “pro-life, except...”, my stand against McConnell still stands, my conservatism is not evolving to pragmatism without requiring guiding principles.

“Some lib puts a lot of weight in the same kind of hypothetical matchups that said Romney would beat Obama.”

Romney could have trounced Obama.

He was just an incompetent clueless buffoon. If he had simply run genetic bland commercials and stayed home he would have won.

Same can be said with Hillary. She may be favored - until people start to know her.

“1. I think Trump can win the general against either BS or Hitlary.”

I used to think that.

I am less sure now.

It would depend on the black vote.

Trump will go for Sharpton or done one like that to get Obama level percent.

Trump goes after the other primary candidates like a mad dog after a pussy cat.

If he will go after the democrats, one worlders, global warming whores, illegals, race pimps, BLM’s, moochers, muslim terrorists and political correctness with half as much vigor he will be the best thing that has happened to America since the elections of 1980 and 1984.

The alternatives to any of the republican candidates, Hillary and Sanders, are just too horrible to contemplate.

Right, Keep posting this nonsense so it will soften the blow tomorrow.

Problem child is FL is a closed primary and your political god does no better there which proves your thesis nonsense.

Right,

It not that your candidate sucks, it is the election is being stolen from him.

Unfortunately this rationalization runs right into a brick wall the minute you look at the close primary states.

Oh, aren't you precious - posting HuffPost drivel to make your point.

You might try recalling just how well Operation Chaos worked out for the GOP in 2008.

I can assure you the 47%ers will be chewing their tongues off to vote for dear life against Trump.

Why don’t you trust Trump? Is it because the vices and indiscretions of his youth are known to the public, whereas the present corruption and immorality of the establishment political hacks are hidden from view? Is it because in the past as a private person in business he has made some off-hand political comments you do not agree with, whereas the establishment political hacks of all stripes are in bed with one another in private, merely pretending to have their differences for public consumption, and once the people are again fooled, return to their destructive self-serving ways? You can see Trump for what he is; whereas the corrupt dishonest lying political establishments hacks, utterly amoral in private, just pretend to be what they are not! So is their polished mendacious speech all really matter to you?

“If he will go after the democrats ... with half as much vigor he will be the best thing”

Agree and looking forward to it. We should keep in mind that the dems will be going after our candidate just as strongly.

Hoping all the skeletons have been exposed and are old news by that point.

“Grow up.”

What?

First, I wasn’t addressing you.

Second, I WAS addressing the author of this piece, not anyone posting here.

Third, what is not “grown up” about warning someone to be careful what they wish for? The obvious conclusion to that warning is “because you may get it.” The Leftists may very well regret supporting Trump, because there’s quite a distinct possibility that he may win. You may disagree with that conclusion, but I find no logic of any kind in your statement.

We can't stand another Mitt Romney style collapse after the primaries.

Mitt went bare fisted against others in the republican primaries and then treated Obama with kid gloves.

When I see stuff like that directed at a fellow FReeper, it makes you appear ignorant, classless and petulant. I’m sorry you lack the cognitive capacity to understand a simple concept.

If you want to debate on merit, that’s great. Your comment shows you aren’t worthy of intelligent debate, regardless of which side you’re on.

I don’t care who your guy is, and to be honest, I didn’t even look, but that’s not the way adults discuss adult topics. FR is for adult discussion, and if you can’t handle that, there are two routes you should take. Either leave, or grow up. I doubt you’ll leave on your own, so I hope you’ll take my suggestion.

Be well, have a great day!

I don’t like open primaries because the Dems get to vote and give us the worst possible candidate to vote for in Nov. Which they won’t support in Nov after they give him to us..
