After Saturday's very important South Carolina Republican Primary, the presidential nomination process kicks into a whole new gear.
Three days later, on Tuesday, Republicans in Nevada will gather for their caucus. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) isn't waiting for Saturday night's results from the Palmetto State to launch his efforts in the Silver State. He unveiled his first Nevada-specific ad on Thursday afternoon.
The 30-second spot, titled "Nevada Land," continues the Cruz campaign's attacks on Republican front-runner Donald Trump over the issue of eminent domain and federal ownership of land. It features Cruz speaking directly to the voters:
"Eighty five percent of Nevada is owned and regulated by the federal government. And Donald Trump wants to keep big government in charge. That's ridiculous.
"You, the people of Nevada, not Washington bureaucrats, should be in charge of your own land. If you trust me with your vote, I will fight day and night to return full control of Nevada's lands to its rightful owners—its citizens. Count on it."
Trump currently holds a 22-point lead over Cruz in recent polls, according to Real Clear Politics. But unlike in Iowa, Nevada delegates aren't bound to the results of the caucus popular vote, making the Silver State a test of organizational strength rather than get-out-the-vote efforts.
Cruz got a boost in that regard, as well, on Thursday. Carl Bunce, who was Rand Paul's senior advisor in Nevada, announced his endorsement and encouraged "libertarian-leaning conservatives" to caucus for the Texas senator.
Bunce joins former Huckabee state leaders Assemblyman John Ellison and former Nevada Republican Party National Committeeman James Smack, who also endorsed Cruz.
"In Nevada and throughout the country, a growing coalition of courageous conservatives continue to unite around us, and I'm thrilled to have Carl joining our team," Cruz said. "Carl has been a staunch advocate for the liberty movement in Nevada and throughout our nation. He brings great experience to our campaign in uniting and turning out libertarian-leaning Republicans, and ensuring they stay engaged in the political process and have their voices heard in the upcoming election."
He should have just borrowed some for the Donald. He is full of it.
You know it really says something about a candidate when he has nothing good to say about himself but instead can only cut down his opponents. That’s Rafael. Sad.
So Cruz realizes SC is a lost cause and is moving on. Too bad he waited so long to do something in NV. He will probably be dropping out soon and heading back to his homeland...Canada.
Pastor Ted pumping the breaking on “partial birth abortion” 24/7
Tricky Teddy was hypocritically hitting Rubio for supporting TPP after Cruz himself enabled it with his month long campaign for Obama’s TPA. And still Cruzies blindly follow their Chosen One unable to see the rich irony of that.
There is a specific incident that wasn’t very favorable to him, but when asked in the debate he said he campaigned on that and he followed through on his promise to his voters. I can’t remember the issue right now because it wasn’t a big deal to me. But the media was trying to make it a big deal. If you watched the debates you would have seen it.
Exactly! Trump was using eminent domain to kick her out of her house! She had to hire lawyers and spend time fighting to keep her house. That is un-American. Especially for a casino parking lot.
Actually that’s where I lost Cruz. I liked him before that, but then turned on him. My issue is right now he’s the prettiest pig we have.
Rubio is amnesty and other issues (like TPP). Trump is a nutjob northeast liberal. Who else do we have?
For better or worse Cruz is our only choice for the most conservative person. At least he did change his mind on TPP. Just like Trump did on partial birth abortion and giving money to Hillary and other democrats.
You know, must of us feel the same way about Trump. Curse at public rallies. Yell liar all the time. Insult your opponents. Change your views at the drop of a hat, and then expect everyone to swallow it. You guys are just mad that Cruz is trying to win and doesn’t let Trump get by with his bullying!
Not at all, with Donald fading fast, and Ted within 5pts in the latest poll, Cruz already knows SC is in the bag. Time to move out and strike the Donald on his home turf over there in Casinoville.
One thing for sure he wonât be using eminent domain to expand the casinos in Vegas.
Be sure to stress that in Nevada.
Stop posting that reality. It is not fair!
Very odd. Trump earlier spoke in sympathy with the Bundys and against government ownership of so much land. But a week later he made the remarks above. Hard to tell what his position really is, but he certainly has the opportunity to refute it now.
its called an outlier:
ONLY WSJ’s Murdoch hit poll has Cruz even close.
When Coking refused to sell to Trump, the city of Atlantic City condemned her house, using the power of eminent domain. Her designated compensation was to be $251,000,[4] about one quarter of what Guccione had offered her 10 years earlier.
With the assistance of the Institute for Justice, Coking fought the local authorities, and eventually prevailed.[5] Superior Court Judge Richard Williams ruled that, because there were âno limitsâ on what Trump could do with the property, the plan to take Cokingâs property did not meet the test of law. But Williamsâ ruling did not reject the practice of using eminent domain to take private property from one individual and transferring it to another, which would eventually be upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States in Kelo v. City of New London.
I KNOW, but I can’t help myself.
I’ll just award that delusional poster a “Thanks for Your Participation, Good Job Buddy Trophy” and go back to the real world.
Oh please...then why did Trump confirm he was trying to take it via eminent domain?
Wiki is not authoritative you do know that right?
Also I’m sure Trump had nothing to do with the city condemning her house. This actually make it worse than what was explained before! Wow he will use the gov’t to condemn property to get his way. I wonder how he’ll use the IRS to go after people if he’s President.
Clearly you don’t understand how eminent domain works in Jersey. The scam is the developer (Trump) gets the city to condemn housing so they don’t have to negotiate directly with the seller (typically). Sometimes they will negotiate directly but then if they don’t get it they need to resort to getting the city to condemn the place—which causes issues because it’s more obvious what is going on.
