Rep. Trey Gowdy's Benghazi committee appears to have had a very productive meeting with national security adviser Susan Rice this week. Following her testimony Wednesday, the chairman said they have made "enormous progress" in their investigation.
No one is soon to forget how Rice went on several talk shows in 2012 repeating the lie that the Benghazi terror attack was the result of an offensive YouTube video. Congressional Republicans were so frustrated with her repeating the same false talking points that they asked for her resignation.
Now, she was finally called before the Benghazi Select Committee, and from what it sounds like, she was cooperative. The panel interrogated her, along with deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes. Gowdy said that these testimonies and access to crucial new national security records have nudged the committee closer to finding answers.
"While there are still witnesses to talk to and documents to review, these significant breakthroughs are big wins that will help the committee complete the most comprehensive investigation into what happened before, during and after the Benghazi terrorist attacks, and release a report as soon as possible," he said.
Someone didn't do their job on the night of September 11, 2012. Security contractors on duty that night in Benghazi claim the CIA's delayed orders contributed to the deaths of four Americans. The soldiers were ready to go protect the U.S. consulate following the first gunshots, but they say they were told to "stand down."
Democrats may claim the Benghazi committee is wasting tax dollars on a biased witch hunt, but even the security contractors who were on the ground in the dangerous region defend the panel. After all, "it's the only committee that's actually talked to everybody."
Why don’t you go snuggle up to uncle Linda, Trey and STFU.
If we lived in a nation where Gowdy could just give the order and a black car would pick up Hillary Clinton and she would be immediately hung,
Too rich a fantasy so early in the morning....
The Commemorative Susan Rice Video Room is on the lower level (/snix).
“”but based upon past results””
I would like to say you goons need to knock it off but I won’t. There haven’t been any “past results” as the investigation is not over and there hasn’t been any report issued.
True. And it’s not his fault that he has run into the “most transparent administration ever”. Add to that the most honest Secretary of State ever, and he has had his hands full.
Unlike most here, I will wait until I see the report before I make a judgment on Gowdy and his work. I have a lot of respect for Gowdy and hopefully after the report I still will.
“No indictments, trials, or convictions have come from this.”
And just whose fault do you think this is? Who has the say so on indictments?
So when will the committee actually do something? 2018?
This committee - let alone Trey Gowdy - does not have, nor will it ever have, the authority to prosecute *anybody.* Like Bruce Hornsby says, "That's just the way it is." Justice under the circumstances will require just prosecution by the proper authorities. They have yet to be named. They certainly will not have ties to the Obama administration.
When investigations take longer than an election cycle...what difference does it make?
A little bit ago the FBI had given him the names of 12 more people to “talk to” so if the investigation is as thorough as it appears, I hope the FBI does bring charges.
Exactly what do you expect him to do? He doesn't have the power of indictment, and he doesn't have the power to enforce subpoenas when the Administration doesn't comply. On top of that, we all know what Hillary did to conceal her communications.
I've seen federal prosecutors do this before. They are methodical, almost annoying so. It takes what seems like too long, and then they release everything in one huge blast, and the reaction tends to be "wow - I didn't know they had all that."
The delays are not Gowdy's fault. But consider this --
When would you rather have had a report damning the Administration and Hillary come out, in 2013, or in the summer of this of this Presidential election year?
Let them hitch their wagon to that witch by nominating her, and then hit her with the blast.
Time for a report/conclusion.
I understand. I used to be where you are. But Issa and Gowdy have talked big for a long time and I just lost hope.
“Either something more than talking is being done or itâs not.”
Didn’t we learn anything from the Eric Holder fiasco?
All Congress can do is recommend an indictment to the Justice Department, and the Justice Department as currently constituted will not indict Democrat politicians. Perhaps Gowdy is smart enough to know that if he delays his recommendation until after the election, there is actually a chance an indictment might happen?
