Poll: Cruz cuts into Trump's SC lead
The Hill ^ | February 19, 2016 | Tristan Lejeune

Posted on 02/19/2016 4:56:54 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released Friday finds Donald Trump leading the GOP presidential field by only 5 points in South Carolina, down from 16 points a month ago.

The RealClearPolitics average of polls still finds Trump ahead of the pack by double digits going into Saturday's South Carolina primary, but Friday's survey reports Trump has 28 percent support among likely Republican voters, down from 36 percent in January. Nearest rival Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) gets 23 percent, up from 20 last month.

Trump and Cruz are followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) with 15 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 13 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Ben Carson tied at 9 percent.

Um, the polls aren’t “all over the place.” All the polls except for the NBC/WSJ polls say essentially the same thing. Then you have the one outlier that the Cruzers are desperately clinging to like a drowning man out in the middle of the ocean hangs onto a soggy board.

I think NBC/WSJ is just reeling their poll #s back closer to reality, to get them more in sync with what the voting result will be so they don’t lose total credibility.

The only “flailing around” that I see, is Trump fans on this thread working overtime to poo-poo a poll that doesn’t honor The Donald.

And what will you do if Trump wins tomorrow and Tuesday?

We need to unite do all we can to fix this country.

In answer to your question, I’d continue to support Cruz’ campaign.

Trumps numbers in South Carolina are clearly fading as we get closer to voting.

Trumps comments on W Bush lying us into war and his praise of the good things planned parenthood does besides abortion seems to be taking a toll.

In the real clear average chart you can clearly see now that Trump is falling fast (yet still ahead)

This mirrors what happened in Iowa where in the final days Trumps numbers started to fade.

Both Cruz and Rubio meanwhile are gaining in the final days. Cruz’s ground game is worth as much as 5 points above his polling. SC might be MUCH closer than anyone thinks. There might be several surprises to talk about after the votes are counted here.

WOOT!

Maybe SC voters heard about his support for the Obamacare mandate.

Polls, with their margins of error and their inherent bias reflective of the organization, still cannot determine with any reasonable certainty who and how many will actually turn out to vote. This being the case I’d look to see where the passion is most concentrated. CRUZ!

I’m sure they poll, but they obviously are adding a unique ‘special sauce’ to the calculations, based upon anticipated demographics and/or turnout...

Pathetic.

So basically you Trumpbots (almost worse than Obamabots) are saying that if Trump does not win tomorrow by at least 15-20 points...He is a bust?

The most conservative candidate in the race should not be losing to a northeastern liberal in one of the most conservative states in America. Spin it all you want. This state should of been sewn up by Cruz a long time ago. So much for the southern firewall strategy.

It is a Trump positive poll. He’s still winning, regardless.

I’m not opposed to any of that, but I hope Cruz can brush up on his executive experience between now and then, and I’d need to see some evidence that he’s gotten better at some point. His current campaign is a mess, which indicates he has poor judgement in this regard. He’s been a political operative his whole life, and I think that not having to make any real-world business decisions has left him naive.

And before the Cruzaders bum rush me, I’m not saying he’s not good enough because he’s not as rich or successful as Trump. I’m just talking about the general life experience you get from being an employee, manager, regional director... anything really.

Cruz is great at looking people in the eye and convincing them he cares, but he seems really lousy at being in charge of things. Hopefully his judgement improves and his next run will be great.

We both know this will come to a decision. In the meantime, you have had my respect as long as I’ve known you on FR. As a Frank Herbert fan, I knew right away that we’d get along.
