How much money has Donald Trump donated to the veterans? That seemingly simple question has anything but a simple answer. When Trump held his January 28 fundraiser for the vets after backing out of the Republican debate in Iowa, his campaign wasnât shy about sharing the good news: Trump had helped raise more than $6 million, including $1 million of his own money, for an undeclared number of veterans' organizations over the course of one hour.
But weeks later, following Trump's second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses and his victory in the New Hampshire primary, and just days before he's set to win in South Carolina, it sure is difficult to figure out how much of that $6 million has been disbursed to groups, and to whom. Some veterans' organizations are just starting to receive their checks, others are still waiting, and nobody involved seems to know what to expect next.
On Thursday, I contacted the Donald J. Trump Foundation by email with a few questions .........................................................
The Trump Foundation had published a list (promoted in a press release on the Trump campaign website) shortly after the January 28 event that listed 22 veterans groups benefitting from the fundraiser. I've contacted all of them and have so far heard back from nine. Those who spoke with me said their appearance on that list was the first word they had heard they would be receiving a donation. And for some, that was the last they've heard, too.

Couldn’t Trump go ahead and pay out for the donations himself and receive the incoming money as payment for a no-interest loan? If he’s going to get things done, wouldn’t this be a good time to start? Between himself and Perlmutter, $2M should be immediately available to send to some of the groups.
My veterans organization got over $50,000 dollars so you all need to STFU!
Please!
How pathetic. It’s been only three weeks since the January 28th Trump event and the Trump haters put out this non-sensical story.
And the rest of America is waiting for Cruz to accomplish something in his career besides collecting government paychecks.
Worth repeating...
bump
There is no doubt in my mind that veterans organizations of Trumps choosing will get 100% of the proceeds.
Maybe the ones they’re talking about are the ones that said they will refuse any money from Trump.
And what has any other candidates done for the vets and wounded warriors. Squat, they are too busy biting at Trump’s ankles.
That was my first thought when I read the headline. Very sad and says a lot about the people who are licking their lips at this non-story.
Yes, I see this too.
Started out loving Cruz, but the nastiness has gone too far. He needs to have better control over his campaign managers and close associates. This is where I see the dirty politics.
Well said!
If Cruz were a businessman, and campaign promises were businesses, Cruz would have had to file bancruptcy on every business he started.
Thank you
The 22 organizations he plans to give to are on his website. Instead of making accusations have you bothered to contact them to verify before spreading stories.
Yeah, you’re right. Any post concerning Trump needs to be fully vetted. Now, Trump doesn’t need to be vetted, but stories about him should be. Posters should call up 22 organizations to confirm the journalist has gotten the story correct.
Better to verify than lie I would think.
So you personally verify ever article you see before posting? I didn’t think so.
I don’t post articles but I do try to research ones that I read because the truth is important. There has been far too much posted on several candidates that under scrutiny don’t hold true. FR is one site I have always felt confident to trust. To post something with NO knowledge of it’s veracity and not to at least mention that is wrong regardless of what side does it. Many posters do clarify in parenthesis if there is a question.
