Cruz, Levin Slam Rubio for Missing Conservative Forum
The National Review ^ | February 18, 2016 | Alexis Levinson

Posted on 02/18/2016 11:25:12 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Greenville, S.C. - In the latest volley in the war of insults between Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, Cruz's campaign is attacking Rubio for missing the Conservative Review Forum here tonight. Rubio was scheduled to speak, but ultimately did not attend.

"This is a final admission that Marco Rubio isn't even going to try to compete for the votes of conservatives in South Carolina or anywhere else. And who can blame him? Rubio isn't conservative," said Rick Tyler, Cruz's communications director, in a statement. "Instead Rubio and his campaign would rather hide behind their deceptive campaign tactics and liberal record on amnesty for illegals and voting to nominate John Kerry."

Rubio's campaign says his absence was the result of a scheduling problem. "Our schedule got blown up this evening and we were running really late," emails Rubio communications director Alex Conant.

Conant blasted back at the Cruz campaign, accusing them of dirty campaigning.

"Did the Cruz campaign really take a break from photoshopping pictures and recording false robocalls to send out this false press release? This ridiculous attack is just the latest example of Ted Cruz's willingness to do or say anything in this campaign," Conant emails.

But Mark Levin, the editor-in-chief of Conservative Review and the ringmaster of the forum, knocked Rubio for his absence.

"It was pretty damn rude of Rubio, quite frankly," he told reporters after the forum. Rubio's campaign sent Senator Tim Scott and Representative Trey Gowdy, two of Rubio's top surrogates in South Carolina, to the convention to represent him, but Levin said the orgnanizers did not permit them to speak in his place. "This isn't about surrogates speaking. Are they running for President of the United States? This is about the candidate speaking. So my position was that if the conservative convention isn’t good enough for Marco Rubio, it isn't good enough for his surrogates."

The decision was consistent with the policy that had imposed on other candidates, said Gaston Mooney, the executive editor of Conservative Review. Jeb Bush had previously asked to send surrogates, he said, and organizers had told him they would not permit surrogates to speak in his place.

"This is a conservative convention. And he chose—first he said he was coming, and then he didn't come. So the voters can draw their own conclusions for it," Levin said of Rubio.

[Sept 14, 2015] Rubio plays up Mormon background on campaign trail

"...According to a recent article by Elena Schneider for Politico ["Marco Rubio's Morman Play"], Rubio said in his book "American Son" that he converted to the LDS Church when he was eight years old and living in Las Vegas, but had returned to Catholicism by the time he was 13.

Rubio has been talking with some of Nevada's leading political republican and LDS leaders, Schneider reported. Some of his supporters include Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison.

"Rubio is subtly leveraging his LDS background to build support in Nevada, where the state's LDS community isn't huge ... but represents an influential constituency in Republican politics," wrote Schneider."....

Levin’s show, Conservative Review and now Levin TV....WOW! He is awesome. That is exactly what we need — sources to educate the publican about the Constitution and conservatism.

I know this is about RuB.O. not showing up. But it reminded me. These resources are going to be so valuable for a long time to come. May God grant him lots of health and long life so he can do this for a very long time.

Rubio (from what I’ve read) has never left the LDS fold - which is a very formal, prescribed process - so in effect they still consider him a member.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/09/marco-rubio-mormon-play-2016-213240

“............Rubio’s conversion came at the age of 8 while his family lived in Las Vegas, as documented in his 2012 book “American Son.” But he felt “called” to return to Catholicism, receiving his first communion at 13 years old.

In the book, Rubio offered a glimpse into the family backstory.

“All in all, the Mormon church provided the sound moral structure my mother had wanted for us, and a circle of friends from stable, God-fearing families,” he wrote. “When we left the church a few years later, mostly at my instigation, we did so with gratitude for its considerable contribution to our happiness in those years.”

Rubio has extended family in Nevada, many of whom are still part of the Mormon Church, including Democratic state Sen. Mo Denis. Though Rubio eventually left the church, his familiarity with the faith and its teachings are noticed and appreciated.

Attendees of the July event in Las Vegas thought Rubio struck the right chord by avoiding direct mention of his LDS years.

“It would’ve been a misstep if he had done that, too obvious,” said state Assemblyman Erven Nelson, a Mormon who’s backing Rubio.”.......

Rubio has been feeding ammo yo Trump and vice versa, That letter that was not written by that Senator they were quoting was used by Trump and Trey Gowdy —even after they knew it was false. Sen Gowdy is acting quite viscious to his Colleague Cruz spreading Lies.

Levin is just a shill for the candidate from Calgary. For weeks, his show has been nothing more than a Cruz infomercial. He may not miss those of us who have stopped listening, but he may eventually wish he had done more to not alienate a segment of his base.

He won’t miss you. His ratings are up, he just signed an extended 5-year radio contract & announced a new on-line TV show. I doubt that he’s alienated true conservatives.

Doesn’t the son of Levin’s fiancee work for the Cruz campaign. What candidate would be stupid enough to attend anything by Levin?

Wanna bet. Google his ratings. He’s now tied with Glen Beck in 4th place. A distant fourth from third place Dave Ramsey.

Tune into his show daily, and he will tell you what to think. Life is easier that way. If you miss one of his shows, just chant: “Cruz good, Trump bad” over and over, like Mark does every day. If that type of hypnotic brainwashing doesn’t work, maybe you can join one of his “levin surges” and march in lockstep with fellow listeners.

Those are the general ratings from Talkers magazine. He's never been higher than where he is on those ratings. Rush & Sean are on many more stations than is Mark. If the folks with the money thought that what you were hoping saying was true, why would they extend his radio contract by 5 years & set up an on-line TV show...

Can you show me previous data. I used to listen to him (for about 6 years) and he frequently bragged about being in third place. In fact, he would take time out to thank the audience for his success.

His show is not tanking, it just seems to have slipped a little. I can't imagine that turning off all of your listeners except Cruz supporters would not cost you listeners.
