Fox News Poll: Trump still leads national race for GOP nomination (Trump 36 Cruz 19)

Donald Trump continues to dominate the race for the Republican nomination, according to a new Fox News national poll of registered voters.

Trump leads with 36 percent among self-identified GOP primary voters. Ted Cruz captures 19 percent and Marco Rubio receives 15 percent.

Jeb Bush and Ben Carson get nine percent a piece, and John Kasich gets eight percent.

The poll, released Thursday, was conducted Monday through Wednesday evenings -- after a heated Republican debate Saturday in South Carolina (and also after Valentine’s Day Sunday).

Trump’s success is due to his ability to make in-roads with core elements of the GOP base.

For example, white evangelical Christians voting in the GOP primary favor Trump (28 percent) and Cruz (26 percent) over Rubio (15 percent) and Carson (15 percent).

Cruz has a slim one-point edge over Trump among those who identify as “very” conservative (29-28 percent). Another 16 percent back Rubio.

Men (40 percent) are more likely than women (32 percent) to make Trump their first choice. Still, he’s the favorite for each.

Nearly six in 10 Republicans want the next president to be someone from outside the political establishment -- and those voters go heavily for Trump (55 percent vs. 15 percent for Cruz and 11 percent Carson).

Meanwhile, Trump is the candidate Republican voters trust to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Thirty-nine percent would put Trump in the room with Putin -- that’s more than double the 18 percent who say Cruz. Fourteen percent say Rubio and 10 percent Bush.

Anyone that believes the below figures ain't playing with a full deck. Trump would beat Hillary Clinton and if matched up with socialist Trump would win 49 out of 50 states. Sanders might win Vermont. Can anyone tell me they know of any republican that would vote for an avowed socialist, one that wants to tax .95 of every dollar you make.

"Trump trails the Democrat by five points: Clinton 47 percent vs. Trump 42 percent. Sanders trounces Trump by 53-38 percent."

I agree that Trump would easily beat Hillary or Bernie. Matter of fact, a large percentage of crossover democrats would give Trump a landslide win.

Especially after he names Hillary as his running mate against Bernie.

I've been following presidential elections for decades. Guess I'm getting old. But one common theme is that the Democrat presumptive nominee is always "far ahead" of the Republican presumptive nominee early in the election cycle.

Remember President Dukakis? He was 17 points ahead of George Bush in mid-July 1988.

Incumbent Jimmy Carter had a THIRTY point lead over Reagan at one point in 1980 and led the polls most of that year. It wasn't until the final few weeks that the polls started favoring Reagan.

I think we need to at least get past the conventions this summer to find out where the race is really at. In the meantime, many of us here are going to go around with butterflies in our stomachs. Get ready for a long summer!

Republicans seriously need to stop worrying and panicking about moving to the center to calm Democrat voters.
Democrats do not sit around nervously saying, "We better move to the center!" to appeal to conservative voters, now do they?

Trump is playing this contest completely outside the box.

I've speculated on this before.

Trump is ALL about winning. After he secures the republican nomination, he will of course move to the center. By choosing Hillary as his running mate, he takes much of that left-center base from Bernie. It would shock the democrat party. It would help Trump seem more mainstream. It will help him smooth over women voters. Especially older women, lesbians, old women's lib types, pro-choice types, etc. Just think about it. Seriously. And Hillary might take that offer after she loses the nomination. She would only be one heartbeat away from what she has angled for all her life, but couldn't win in an election.

And Trump has always said he thinks she did a great job as Senator, and as Secretary Of State. He even thought Bill did a great job as President. He has always supported them as well as financially. He likes them. It would totally shake up the race, and allow him to claim a larger mandate, and siphon voters from the center, and liberals who are afraid of Sanders brand of socialism. Trump thinks outside of the box. THIS is outside of the box

And Trump's positions before actually running for the Republican nomination have greatly been in agreement with Hillary's. You have to honestly admit that.

And the big kicker - Yes , he would lose some conservative voters. But they sure as hell aren't going to vote for Sanders! they will just sit home or hold their nose and vote for him. And he sure as hell won't lose any of his true blue supporters. No way in hell. His supporters will accept anything. They just are invested in him winning, and what they perceive as what he stands for. They really don't know for sure. they just think he talks a great kick-ass game now, and upset with the shape of government now. He himself has said even if he shoots someone in public, few of his supporters would flee him. And I believe that after reading this site for several months. Hillary would make them crinkle their noses, but all he would have to do is say - This Will Make Us Win !!! And they would go for it.

And he become President Trump. Any of his true blue supports would accept that.

And yet Fox has been reporting on the NBC push poll all day long.
