MSNBC's choice to host Donald Trump in an exclusive town hall on Wednesday did not result in a ratings win against competitors CNN or Fox News.
During the 8pm hour, when MSNBC's Trump town hall was up against CNN's GOP town hall (which kicked off with Ben Carson), it was actually Fox News that had the highest total viewers, with 2.3 million, despite the fact that "The O'Reilly Factor" was helmed by a guest host, Eric Bolling. MSNBC's Trump town hall had 1.4 million total viewers, while the first hour of CNN's three-part town hall had 2.05 million viewers. CNN though, nearly doubled Fox News in the all important demo of 25-54 year-olds, with about 629,000 viewers compared to Fox's 373,000 viewers. MSNBC has 341,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.
MSNBC scheduled the Trump town hall after CNN announced their two-night town hall, no doubt hoping that the presence of Trump could take a bite out of the competition.

They all say the same things...it’s called staying on message. If you watch them all, it’s the same.

Donald Trump appeared on MSNBC in an apparent and successful attempt to steal the spotlight from CNN’s Townhall with Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Dr. Ben Carson.
That’s absurd.
The exchange between Trump and the MSNBC hosts happened whether you or I or anybody else watched it in real time.
Honestly.
The real problem is that Trump’s own words are biting him, and that’s hard for his supporters to swallow. Maybe he can sue MSNBC.
Nope !!! Actually it’s 1.39999999999999 million more than they normally have :-) They always catch somebody channel surfing.
He also donated max amount to Cruz during his senate race.
I don’t think anyone’s mind is going to change with these or the rest of the debates. I think it’s pretty much set. There may be a few on the fence, but they’re probably leaning pretty heavy to one candidate or another. As the candidates drop...if they do...that will probably get the undecideds to jump.
It depends what time slot CNN gives to Trump. They will probably opt to put Trump on last like they did with Ted Cruz. I am sure the viewer numbers dropped when Cruz came on...mainly because the East Coast folks were heading to bed. No matter what slot he is assigned, with Trump it will be much different, because everyone is ticked off at the Pope for his nutcase remarks regarding Trump (can the Pope be that dumb?)....Trump will bring in viewers by the millions...no matter where CNN places him in the lineup!!!
Actually....the Pope could not have timed his offensive, uncalled for remarks, better....plunging into American politics....where he does not belong!!! What an idiot. South Carolina voters, don’t waste your precious vote on Kasich, Carson, Cruz, Rubio & Bush come Saturday, Primary Day. Show this braindead Pope...that he has no say whatsoever, in American politics!! He can rule the Vatican the way he wants....but he cannot rule the American Republic....ever!!!
Vote for Donald J. Trump to become the next POTUS!!! Do it!!!
You sound slightly unhinged, but this is apparently the year for that.
Not to worry. This will probably be my one and only chance to vote for Trump for President, as it was for Newt.
Chuz Cruz you luz!
This is skewed:
First, this must be compared with average viewers during these time slots to see the bounce.
MSNBC has 1 viewer normally and grew to 1.4 million viewers.
Both FOX and CNN typically have 2 million or so, so they pick up a few thousand.
exactly
But but they told me Trump is the best ratings magnet EVA!
Trump’s ego takes yet another beating!
I probably won’t watch anyway. The new season of Vikings starts tonight
You mean like this egomaniacal, deranged clown?
No thank you.
Incoming law suits!
DONEald will sue CNN for letting Cruz speak at the same time as the Chump.
DONEald will sue PMSNBC because they sandbagged him with a couple of real questions.
