Ted Cruz Video: As President I Will Do Everything Possible to End Abortion

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is one of the pro-life candidates seeking the GOP nod to take on pro-abortion Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. Cruz has a long pro-life track record in office and it’s one he says in a new video he will continue as president.

"A candidate that can't be trusted to protect the right to life can't be trusted to protect any of our other God-given rights either. When you look at the voting records of politicians…if they're bad on life, they're always — I repeat always — bad on everything else, too,” Cruz says in the new video.

"As president of the United States, I pledge to you that I will do everything within my power to end the scourge of abortion once and for all. That I will use the full constitutional power and the bully pulpit of the presidency to promote a culture of life,” Cruz continues. “That I will sign any legislation put on my desk to defend the least of these, including legislation that defends the rights of all persons, without exception other than the life of the mother, from conception to natural death. That I will not only defund Planned Parenthood, but I will instruct the Department of Justice to investigate Planned Parenthood and to prosecute any and all criminal conduct which those videos that we saw from the Center for Medical Progress so powerfully evidenced.”

“Everything I just pledged to you should be an automatic requirement for any prospected president who takes an oath of office before an all-powerful God to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution,” Cruz adds.

Howdy!

First off congrats on Ted doing so well. I will admit I was pretty skeptical about his ability to get into the first rank of candidates back this summer. I was wrong about that and Ted has made it to clear second place in the contest, and is far ahead of the rest, except Rubio who is finally starting to be a solid and close 3rd to Ted.

But I still wonder if he has much chance of getting elected. Just as Trump seems to have a 35% ceiling (and has bounced off it couple times) so too does Cruz seem to have a 20% ceiling. It seems like Rubio has been picking up more of the people supporting the recent drop-outs (Huckabee, Christie, Fiorina, Rand & Santorum), which is what has moved him so close to Ted.

When I look at this statement for instance, it seems like Red Meat for Team Ted, but not so persuasive for the 80% of GOP voters who are currently not backing him.

Unlike others here I'm not really interested in a mud-throwing contest. I don't view anything Ted has said as a terrible lie, and the kerfuffle with Carson was unfortunate, but hardly makes him worthy of the dissing he has received. Political hay has been made.

But I'm still left thinking that he's not really on target to win the nomination, and has even less chance of winning the general (not that that really matters much to me, because so much could happen on the other side I think it's best for us to just nominate the best candidate, and work to win from there. Things like a Hillary indictment, Bernie nomination, or either of them dropping dead mid-campaign make the chances of whoever we nominate better than average) .
