RUSH: Here is Wendy in Houston. Wendy, you lead off today. Great to have you with us on the program.
CALLER: Oh, my goodness. It is such an honor to talk to you. Thank you so much for everything that you do.
RUSH: Well, thank you.
CALLER: Thank you so much, and my children love your books, so thank you, thank you. Start with that.
RUSH: You bet.
CALLER: So thank you. Huge honor. I just want to call, because I'm listening to this, and I am a huge anti-establishment, cannot stand all of that, but yet I still don't get it with the Trump thing because he doesn't stand for our conservative beliefs and values, whereas there is a candidate who does. Cruz stands up for what we believe in, and he is anti-establishment. So I don't understand how Trump can continue to say these things, especially have the audacity to support Planned Parenthood and all that he did on Saturday, and still the people won't leave him who consider themselves to be conservative when there's a very viable option. So I'm hoping you can help me understand.
RUSH: Look, I'll say this again, and I need you to hear me this time. The majority of Trump's support base is not the Republican base.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: The majority of Trump's support base is not conservative. There are quite a few, but I don't think they're the majority. And if they are the majority of the Trump support base, it's a very, very tiny majority. His coalition -- it's really ironic -- the coalition that Trump has put together is exactly what the Republican Party has been telling us conservatives they need to do to win.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: While they have been blowing us off, while they have been lying to us, they've been saying, "No, no, we can't win with just you guys. We need to go out and get these --" Well, Trump's doing it, and they don't want any part of it. In the second place, remember Jeb Bush said that he was gonna win the nomination without the base. Guess who's doing it? Trump.
CALLER: That's right.
RUSH: So go figure.
CALLER: Exactly. But then Trump, I don't understand why people don't get more fired up against him, why people are not standing up against him and going with Cruz, who is standing up against the establishment, plus the values. What are your thoughts there?
RUSH: My theories are probably just the same as yours. You know, you've got any number of alternatives to Trump.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: And Cruz is the leading alternative right now.
CALLER: Yes. But he's just at 18%, I think you just said; is that correct?
RUSH: He's tied at 18% in South Carolina. But he's outperforming. In every election he outperforms what the polling says. I think Cruz is the -- ah, what's the term? He's the sleeper out there. It's Cruz that's sneaking up on everybody. Everybody's focusing on Trump.
CALLER: So what is it gonna take to wake everyone up to cross that line? If Trump comes in and makes it big in South Carolina in this primary, then what is it gonna take? Is it just a done deal? What do you think it's gonna take?
RUSH: To do what?
CALLER: To wake everybody up, to switch over --
RUSH: Wendy, I think everybody's awake on our side.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: This is what you gotta come to terms -- everybody's awake. And there are a lot of people -- you're putting me in a very difficult position here.
CALLER: Sorry.
RUSH: No, no, no. I'm not complaining to you. You don't know, 'cause I don't wear my blood on my sleeve. You know, I don't bleed and whine and moan and complain to the audience about things that happen to me because I'm bigger than that. But you would not believe the number of people that are coming at me as though all of this is my fault, that I could have stopped this way back when if I would have just been a leader, if I would have just done this or that.
I have been sitting around observing. I have been a conservative all my life. I've been doing this radio program as a conservative for 27 years. There is no doubt anywhere all across this country who I am and what I stand for. There's no misunderstanding. Well, there might be some misunderstandings among people that doesn't listen, but there's no misunderstanding that I am a conservative and that -- well, arguably, the Mister Big of the vast right-wing conspiracy. It's a challenging position I'm in here because there's some things I probably shouldn't say.
I've got two responsibilities here, folks. I've got my responsibility to you, the audience, which I put at number one. My responsibility to this program, my career, my job, not my career, but this is the thing I've chosen to do. There are all kinds of people who depend on me doing it and doing it well. That's my number one focus. I'm not the leader of the conservative movement. I've never sought that. I'm not denying any -- already right there, "Wait a minute. You mean you've been lying to us?" No, I haven't been lying to you. It's not my job to get votes for people, damn it! It's theirs! What more do you want me to do?
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: The best thing I could tell you, folks, I guess, as I assess all this, is this is not an election, with a competition of philosophies. We're way beyond that. People are not gonna rely on philosophy to accomplish anything. You can have the best philosophy in the world, I don't care what you call it, and it's not gonna mean anything if you're up against somebody who succeeds at making people think he's gonna break balls, kick butts, take names, put people in prison, fix the country, make the country great again, whatever the hell that means to people. You can philosophize all day long in competition against it, and we'll see you in the rearview mirror.

Excellent! A brilliant analysis.
While I am a Cruz guy with Trump as my second and only other choice, I’ve been thinking about a Post I read here a week or two ago.
It was a question from one FReeper to another that simply asked, what Blue States that Obama Won in 2012 will Cruz be able to turn Red in 2016?
To be frank, that stumped me. I can see States in play with Trump, but I am having a hard time thinking the same not only of Cruz but any other Candidates including the two Dolts from Blue Florida.
Could I be wrong, possibly, hopefully?
One other thing. The only thing that good old Marco “Amnesty” Rubio will accomplish with his Presidential Bid will be losing the FL Senate Seat he is giving up to a DemoncRat, f’n Moron.
All that being said, I’ve never seen anything like this Election Season.
Admittedly I didn’t pay too much attention to the Political world before 1992, the year I made the mistake of Voting Perot. That is something I always regretted, not that my Vote in CA would have made a bit of difference.
SO true. And Trump is the only one who can untangle the mess!
Trump is a lifelong NY liberal who only recently began claiming conservative positions because he is trying to win the R nomination.
Trump has repeatedly, over many years, described the Clintons as his ‘good friends’ and as being ‘great people’.
Trump has repeatedly defended and praised both Bill and Hillary.
Trump and Bill were in contact prior to Trump announcing he’d run, confirmed by 4 Trump allies and 1 person from the Clinton camp familiar with the call (all unnamed).
I heard Rush today over my lunch hour. What he was saying is extremely nuanced. It is almost Socratic. I find it pro-Trump, and very important to the growing philosophical foundation of the Trump movement.
He does weigh some pros and cons, and he does give creds to Cruz and even Rubio, but he never fails to point out that the real battle here is against the Democrats, who are actively opposed to America. And he is not just being pragmatic in is subtle support for Trump. He is saying that saving America is the only thing that matters right now, and Trump is right on target to accomplish this . . . perhaps uniquely suited because of his ability to fight off both the media and the establishment.
He is exactly right on in his analysis, he just doesn't like who is winning. He has done everything except release a statement of support for Cruz yet people here complain that he is in the tank for Trump.
Rush is clearly friends with Rubio and is willing to overlook some of his short comings.
I think he wishes the other candidates had recognized what the people see in Trump but they don't.
The great part of this show today was when he pointed out he had spent his entire career criticizing the Clintons and Obama and the result has been two Clinton terms and two Obama terms with Hillary poised to win the nomination.
The GOP refuses to recognize the level of contempt the people have for the political class and Trump is taking advantage of it. Any of the candidates could have done the same thing and it is telling that they didn't.
Rush can't say this,
Actually Rush has been saying exactly that for weeks, but he made it as clear as he possibly could today. If people don't get that from Rush they clearly don't want to or are not listening to him.
Pure unabashed B$, that is his biggest negative. I have said many times right here that if you could put Cruz in Rubio's body he would be a shoo in.
Truthfully you can become a life member today but that says nothing about how long you have been a member.
He has said this many times before just not as forceful. He was clearly agitated at the caller who demanded he do more. He explained that 27 years of pointing out the danger of Democrats and Clinton and Obama in particular has yielded exactly what? Two terms each and Hillary in the on deck circle.
He is not going to attack Trump daily because he sees that Trump is very likely going to win and he can do nothing to stop it and he clearly does not want a democratic win of any kind.
Of course not!
As long as we expect politics to fix a spiritual problem.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name,
shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways; ,
then will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.
I recall a story about a lost sheep and how the Shepard left 99 of His other sheep to look for it.
I am feeling your pain.
I’m very, very, very conservative -as are my siblings- and we’re supporting Trump. Our Mother, on the other hand, won’t budge from Cruz.
Rush doesn’t understand Trump supporters, or this primary, very well, at all.
I’ll agree that Cruz is a conservative, but RUBIO ????
Great audio of Schlafly. Thanks for posting.
Someone posted a while ago that there is a jealousy issue with Rush as it relates to Trump.
Trump has a bigger ............. ................... plane.
Could be.
Thanks for the info on Steve Kane show. I’m listening to it now and will do it in the future.
Like Rodney Dangerfield said: “You’re way off pal.”
