Newt on Trump ad hominem attacks: "I think it makes us look stupid."
Fox News - Greta Van Susteren ^ | 2/15/2016 | Fox News

"I wish Trump would drop all of the personal ad hominem things which he seems to enjoy so much. I think it weakens the country, I think it weakens him, I think it makes us look stupid. Uh, and I'm not defending Cruz or anybody else. I'm just saying... I think the whole politics of this kind of personal stuff is almost deranged. It makes no sense to me to spend this kind of time on this kind of personality stuff."

Newt so wishes he had Trump’s popularity but he does not have the brains for it. So now he trashes Trump like all the other failures jealous of Trump’s success.

“I think the whole politics of this kind of personal stuff is almost deranged”.

Nail on the head. TDS is Trump derangement syndrome, but in TDS it is Trump and his supporters who are deranged.

“You have to have a straight to the gut theme....MAKE AMERICA great again”

If that is true, then maybe it is time to dust off another straight to the gut theme that has worked before.

Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer

And no, I don’t think Trump is A.H. and yes I will vote for him in the general. I just think some people need to think about what they are saying. Is Trump going to allow any dissent?

I will defend Newt, and even GW Bush, when they are accused of being witches. And I’ve been fighting the GOPe for 25 years, so I don’t need any lectures about conservative purity. But people who are willing to lie about other people, who though imperfect have long fought for our side, are part of the problem, not the solution.

You're talking about a guy who's taken historic, non-stop malicious attacks, slanders, death threats, entire networks gunning for him, not to mention both parties in D.C. since 6/16/2015. Incoming around the clock. Many of these were professional level orchestrated political attacks and death threats.

Newt's an OK guy, but he sure in hell never faced anything like this. Trump has all the right enemies for damn good reason.

Trump knows that failing to work with congress has mde the public angry. He will not make that mistake.

Don’t forget the art of the deal.

As for my comment about short to the gut, or the heart, messages, I am trying to make the point that it is an old marketing truism.

I remember very well a movie, although I can not remember the name of the movie, in which Sidney Greenstreet was the lead and he played a high powered CEO of a marketing company.

He called a meeting of all of his marketing people. They were seated around this long beautiful table. It looked like the board room.

Immediately after he called the meeting to order, he spat on the table. The attendees were stunned.

Then he said: “Gentlemen, you have just seen me do a very disgusting thing. But you will never forget it.”

I don’t think I need to explain any further.

Trump knows how to market himself.

Newt did not, Romney does not and Jeb Bush is trying market a dead fish.

Sooo, Trump will work with Mitch McConnell? What about Ted Cruz, Rand Paul? How about Schumer?

Sorry.

I thought you understood the art of dealing.

The true art of dealing is to trade something you don’t much care about for something you want.

As in you want that shiny new Lexus more than you want the money.

Or....and this is the real test of a great negotiator, you do not go to the table to deal until you find out what it is the other guy wants so much that he is willing to give you what you want in return for it.

You never go to the table as a beggar, like Kerry, Madam “Not so Bright” and the others we send to N. Korea, China, Iran, etc.

“I thought you understood the art of dealing.”

I’ve done commercial real estate and started a number of businesses. I am not opposed to Trump’s dealmaking skills, sorely missing among our side. I am disturbed by Trump’s demonization of everyone who opposes him. That can win battles, but without an overarching philosophical base it cannot win long term.

Trump can't discuss policy or ideology from a conservative perspective because he doesn't understand the conservative point of view. He's been a liberal all his life and someone else wrote his position papers for him. He knows sound bites, but couldn't hold a lengthy discussion without exposing himself as the fraud he is. All he's got are threats and name calling.
