The other GOP candidates are finally starting to fight on Donald Trumpâs terms, to judge by the slugfest that was Saturday nightâs debate. But it speaks volumes â whole encyclopedias â about the ignorance of our political and media elites that theyâre only now realizing that much of what Trumpâs been doing is just busting balls.
Itâs a blue-collar ritual, with clear rules â overtly insulting, sure, but with infinite subtleties. It can be a test of manliness, a sign of respect, a way of bonding and much more.
Rule No. 1: You can wince, but donât squeal.
Rule No. 2: Bust right back, if you can.
Not knowing how to play is no excuse. And not getting it shows you have no idea how a huge swath of America lives â the Americans whom Trump has made his base.
From the start, Trump targeted the (mostly) white working class, which happens to be 40 percent of the country. And heâs done it not just with issues, but with how he talks â the ball-busting, the âbragging,â the over-the-top promises.

I understand the urgency Americans feel to get behind a sure thing and the fear of a more experimental guy like Cruz after zero spent every waking minute burning them for 8 years. I really wish Trump/Cruz could reconcile: we need the Warrior AND the wonk.
“Itâs not that new.”
Maybe not, but it is DEFINITELY NEW to see a Republican actually fight this way.
I appreciate your response, it has some arguable points.
It’s in the eye of the beholder. I am actually rather self effacing.
On the other hand, I know what I know.
The key questions for me are...
What are Trump’s policy positions, and how does it comport with my beliefs? I’m really not sure, and don’t know how anyone else can claim to know, because Trump has been all over the place.
What does Trump plan to accomplish, and HOW does he intend to do it? Presence is not an answer. People said similar things about Obama in 2008, and look how that turned out.
I’m not interested in watching Trump give the middle finger to the “Donor Class” or the “Establishment”; because frankly, he’s been both, and he’s said so.
We have to live with a President for four years. Nobody knows what “President Trump - Day 2” looks like.
I hate to break this to you but no one knows what Day 2 of anyone looks like. There is what they say, and what they do, that’s true of all politicians, and for presidents in particular, most of what they promise they can’t deliver on because their power is not absolute.
What I know is that if it weren’t for Trump not a single player would be talking about illegal immigration. Do I trust Cruz, Rubio, Bush or anyone else to even do anything about it? Not a damned bit no matter what they claim today, because they haven’t in the past, and once they have the vote I expect them to do the same thing they’ve done for 30+ years.... .NOTHING.
Do I expect them to build a wall? Nope... no matter what they claim.
Do I expect them to take on the hideous trade deals that have wrecked our economy and helped to destroy the middle class? NOPE... because they are the ones who have argued for them.
Do I expect them to end Common Core? Nope... they’ll give it some new name at best. Hell some of them can’t even admit its a disaster.
Do I expect them to abolish the H1B program? Nope
Do I expect them to halt immigration from terrorist nations, knowing full well we cannot vet these people appropriately? Nope...
DO I expect them to really repeal Obamacare? NOPE... other than lip service and show, they haven’t done jack and wont.
So, while I commend you for looking for someone who shares your beliefs, don’t kid yourself into think that means your candidate is going to follow through on anything they have claimed.
I have ZERO faith in any of the traditional/establishment candidates to do jack crap... Including Cruz. Why? Track record. We all know damned well, not a single player would even be talking about immigration if it wasn’t for Trump. You think if they get the White House they are going to do anything? You think they will do a damned thing about “refugees”? I don’t. YOu think they will take on PC culture and the press and put it where it belongs? I don’t, because they haven’t.
THey are all beholden to the same money men who gave this mess, I have ZERO confidence any of them will suddenly start putting America first.
Trump could be a bad Executive, he could be a great Executive.... but the idea that somehow he’ll do a worse job than either party has managed in the past few decades is laughable on its face.
Whoever wins we all have to deal with it for at least 4 years.. but that’s always the case, and that’s the great thing about America, no president is permanent.
I say the fear that Trump will be bad is far less than giving the establishment uniparty and its backers another 4 years to continue wrecking this great nation.
