Laura Ingraham, who is a conservative radio host, gave a warning to the GOP presidential candidates that they should stop defending the actions of President George W. Bush because "millions and millions" of Republican voters believe the Iraq War that he got the United States into was a mistake.
During the CBS hosted GOP Republican presidential debate last Saturday night, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump accused George W. Bush of lying about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction.
"Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?" Trump said. "They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none, and they knew there were none."
These comments by Trump come just two days before George W. Bush goes out to campaign for his younger brother, Jeb Bush, in South Carolina.
The hosts of Fox News were told by Ingraham that Trump's criticism of Bush was risky, but also a very calculated strategy.
"He's thinking that there are millions and millions of Republican voters who have had the luxury of time to look back on whether the war in Iraq was really a good idea," Ingraham explained. "And all the money we spent, and all the men and women we lost. And I think a lot of Republicans -- the establishment doesn't like to hear this -- millions and millions of Americans probably agree with Trump."
"This was a disaster for the United States," Ingraham added. "We've lost influence in the Middle East; we've toppled dictators who probably had their finger on the dice of what was going to be a flood of tumult. And he's betting that people aren't going to just reject the Republican Party of today, they're going to reject the Republican Party of the Bushes.'"
"If they think they are going to re-litigate the Iraq war throughout the United States in this primary process and that's going to end well for them, I don't think it is."
Trump’s operating so far above and ahead of everyone - people don’t understand and say foolish things like you just said. Read post 14.
100% true, and Trump will draw millions of disaffected Dems and independents away from her with that position, whether he is telling the truth about opposing it or not (and that is still unclear and fuzzy)
Lets stop sheltering George W Bush from accountability for his decisions and their consequences. Personal accountability is supposed to be a conservative value - but so many freepers want to exempt George W Bush.
Because some leftists want to blame him for things that aren’t his fault, Bushbots don’t want him held accountable for things he actually did. Iraq invasion was his baby, and by any objective standard it was a disaster
Not only did Iraq not have any functioning unconventional weapons, they hardly had any functioning conventional weapons. Their tanks were rag tag cast offs, many of them without engines, just used as fixed artillery positions. Their air force was absolutely no match for the US Air Force. Even their much ballyhooed SCUD’s were like flying pipe bombs, just pointed and launched, if they actually did any damage it was pure chance. Even their ground forces were composed of poorly trained, and equipped draftees, and overage reservists.
Politicians should not micro manage war. Worst is the Rules of Engagement especially when fighting people who are NOT signatories of the Geneva Convention. Let the Generals do what they do best! And that is NOT Meals on Wheels. Win or don’t start it.
****believe Bush should have been impeached like Trump****
Do you have evidence of Trump saying this or are you putting words in his mouth?
Condi Rice was criminally negligent, but got a pass because of her skin color and the "haze" after 9/11.
Is this Reddit?
Powell insisted that the Bush Admin. lied to him.
Colin Powell ‘was lied to and used by George Bush to add credibility to invasion of Iraq’
Neither one of Bush/s two wars had anything to do with American interests....its what the neo-cons wanted.
The political buzz was Bush met w/ the neos BEFORE the election..... and cut the deal to invade BEFORE the election....to get their votes.
The deal also included the neos catbird seat in the WH....in the Office of Special Ops setup by Bush especially for them.
I’ve told a CEO - I like it when people think I am dumber than I am - it gives me an advantage over them.
Same holds true with Trump. And then he rolls over them like a bulldozer. Sure they whine like a cloud mosquitoes - but they completely ineffective and neutered. All the complainers remind me of the Arab proverb: “The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on”.
Under his watch, hundreds of thousands of people died at his hand. That is not leftist propaganda. That is the truth.
The question that republicans need to come to terms with and answer is, was it worth it?

Says Code Pinko.
I am all for holding Obama accountable for his decisions. But I also believe in honesty and consistency, not double standards. That means holding Bush accountable for his bad decisions too
Invading Iraq - with the aim of toppling the dictator who checkmated Iran and kept home-grown jihadis under his boot - was a terrible decision.
I think it is a safe thing to say that there was some shady sh*t going on with that war.
At what point would the Iranians just have renewed the’80’s war and gone in and knocked out Hussein , whose armed forces had been hollowed out by years of sanctions? It was the threat of the “non existent” weapons of mass destruction, which Hussein had employed in the earlier war that kept them from doing so. In those early days of the war, it was certainly everyone’s expectation that Iraq would be shelling US soldiers with poison gas. If you want to play “what if,” at least go and set the pieces the way they were then.
AS I said, it’s one thing to say the war was a mistake; it’s another to use the discredited leftist lie “Bush lied” and to blame him for 9/11 and for failing to get bin Laden, when he had been in office 8 months when 9/11 happened and Clinton had accommodated the Islamofascists for 8 years.
But then, The Don is a longtime friend and supporter of the Klintoons.
His choice.
