Already in 2016, communities around the world have been forced to confront climate disasters of all sorts.
Severe flooding in some regions and dire water shortages in others have resulted in food crises, mass migration, and economic mayhem.
Climate injustices like these are becoming obvious to citizens all over our rapidly warming world, and governments are simply not responding with the expected urgency.
"There is definitely a call for colored people, especially those from vulnerable groups," Kimberly Lopez Castellanos explained of the climate justice movement. "We want their voices to be heard, their stories to be told and their energy to be passed onto big groups of people."
Ashley Franklin of the Labor Community Strategies Center, a labor rights, human rights, environmental justice organization based in Los Angeles, affirmed that her identity has been an integral and beneficial part of her involvement in the climate justice movement.
"I think being a woman of color from a working class family, with a parent who's an immigrant to the United States only gives me more ammunition to state that it's my right to speak up here," she said.
Climate justice acts as a platform for the empowerment of perpetually marginalized populations, and in so doing, brings together "the 99 percent" and highlights both the needs and the solutions of the people.

Wow, not even sure where to start here.
That's quite the "More-privileged-than-Thou" card, there, sweetie.
What a load of crap. The ONLY reason these so-called "marginalized" populations SEEM to be suffering more is because there is better communications for the liberal do-gooders to report on climate activities that have always occurred.
I’m left wondering what color or race has to do with climate and why someone would try to link the two? Seems like she is making race an issue when it has no viable meaning. Hey, wait a second! I know I’ve heard a term for that somewhere...oh yeah, racism.
Oh, Shux!!!! Now we not only have to deal with “Social Justice Warriors” (SJWs), but also “Climate Justice Warriors” (CJWs)!!!!
PHOOEY to both of them!!!!
When you see the words “climate” and “justice” used together you know you’re down the rabbit hole. Those two words have no relationship. It’s like saying “tractor cervix” or “telephone pudding.”
“Climate injustices”
I never want to hear this phrase again.
I'm thinking climate re-education will be next, then climate tribunals and climate gulags.
These nuts get more Stalinist every day.
I think she’s pissed Dick Cheney’s Evil Weather Machine doesn’t exist.
Is that related to “Justice for Mumia” ?
So, the evil white patriarchy-or just all evil whites, as they will-have evilly used their evil powers to manipulate the climate in order to destroy the lives of colored people, or people of color, or colors of people, something like that.
Well, if whites are that dadgummed powerful, you’d think that people who still wash their clothes by beating them on rocks would understand that they don’t stand a chance and just submit to their new overlords. Or do they expect to rely on the altruism of these all-powerful white people? If that’s so, then they must not be so very evil. So I wonder, which is it?
My ancestors were driven out of Ireland by the potato famine. That should be good for a cool million for me and 326 members of my family.
No climate, no peace.
Until the world’s climate is exactly the same everywhere all the time for every person we can have no climate justice!
Climate justice is to justice as social engineering is to engineering.
I agree. What's needed is climate redistribution. The government should take away the good climate from the areas that have it, and give it to areas where the climate isn't so nice.
I think the world has to do something about the plague of eco-terrorists who have infested western civilization.
These people are not “liberal do gooders”.
They are Communists.
