Bush Lied About WMDs? Trump's Outrageous Accusation - ludicrous left-wing canard.
The American Spectator ^ | February 15, 2016 | Paul Kengor

Posted on 02/15/2016 1:35:17 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

[Huge SNIP]

Thus, by 2003, President George W. Bush had correctly calculated that Saddam's WMD arsenal, after at least five years of no inspections, was an intolerable, unacceptable risk in the wake of 9/11.

This was a fully legitimate fear, with Bush's suspicion of Saddam's stockpiles first informed not by his advisers but, instead, by the media that informed all of us in the 1990s, years before Bush became president.

In short, all of that very recent history was forgotten by an emotional, angry, childish political left after our troops didn't find the WMD stockpiles we all expected.

Of course, we did discover some WMDs in Iraq after 2003 (everyone forgets this), and chief inspector David Kay found both Iraqi infrastructure and intent to ramp up WMD production once Saddam later figured he was in the clear. We did not, however, find the WMD stockpiles we expected.

That said, the argument that George W. Bush deliberately lied about WMDs is not only extraordinarily unfair but stunningly misinformed and nonsensical.

Sure, Donald Trump can generally argue that going into Iraq was ill-advised, and that "we destabilized" the larger Middle East region. "George Bush made a mistake," said Trump in the South Carolina debate. "We should have never been in Iraq."

That's a legitimate point of contention. Fair enough - though Trump better not exclude Obama's prematurely pulling troops from Iraq from that equation. That, more than anything else, enabled the rise of ISIS.

But Trump charging that Bush lied on WMDs is outrageous. He should clarify it, apologize for it, or admit that he did not speak as precisely as he should have.

We’re not talking about disclosure of anything. We’re talking about simple defense of his claims. He wouldn’t even say “did to.” to those who said saddam didn’t have them. He wouldn’t help with anything.

Amazing isn’t it. It’s looking more likely we are going to get stuck with Trump. There are none so blind as those who are determined not to see.

I think G.W. thought best to conceal the location of WMD’s, and disavow their existence by means of mild references to being mistaken about them. It had been estimated that cleanup, deactivation and destruction of the amount of material transported to the valley would exceed 10 billion?? 100 billion?? More?? And take years and years...of very dangerous work. Better for the world to leave them under the dirt in Lebanon..

Bush was going in no matter what was found out and no matter what saddam decided. I dont know why.

The 10s of billions the Saudis supply to terrorists was much more dangerous than this 2 cent dictator yet they paid no price.

no one can seriously believe that the sauds ha NO knowledge of planned terror attacks against America.

perhaps not 9/11, but the knew where their money was going.

bush was so in bed with the sauds i’m surprised he didn’t have one of their children.

would be a shame if russia kicked their ####es off this planet.

yeah, i know Russia is a Big threat to us, but for now, let them kill ISIS members an the “moderates” and shoot down any saudi planes for good measure.

Donald Trump is a 9/11 Truther. He is not fit to be elected dog catcher, let alone president of anywhere. He belongs to the nut house.

........”Even before Saturday’s debate, [Trump had] already lost any pretense of being a revolutionary. Aside from his border fence and his temporary ban on Muslim immigration, his primary policy prescription consisted of little more than “Put me in charge, and I’ll make things right.” That’s the oldest piece of political pie-in-the-sky there is, and it doesn’t become revolutionary simply because it’s accompanied by a barrage of personal insults and a shock-and-awe media presence.

But after Saturday’s debate, it’s clear there’s a Democrat in the GOP field. Trump doesn’t threaten the Republican establishment because he’s too conservative or too populist. He threatens the Republican establishment because he belongs in the other party. He’s hid it well until now. But as his family Bible says - in the same Testament as Two Corinthians - “There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed.”

Donald Trump has been revealed. The ball is in your court, South Carolina. Will the state that prides itself on picking the Republican nominee select the GOP’s first Democrat?”

I’m sorry but THOSE chems were NOT the reason Bush gave for the invasion where the cost was 4000 dead, tens of thousands maimed and wounded and over 2 trillion dollars no matter how bad you want it to be so.. for a few old chem shells.. really? that’s silly talk.. how don’t you get it?

It’s too bad Bush claimed there were no WMD if there really were. But he said it and even made a high profile joke about it at a media roast event. At the same time, Cheney was saying there were WMD. I was shocked that Bush said it. I felt scandalized.

“Bush was going in no matter what was found out and no matter what saddam decided. I dont know why.”

Look at a map. Sadam was vulnerable, and occupied the strategic location we needed.

It was brilliant, bold, and absolutely necessary deployment. I think the world would never have heard of ISIS if Obama hadn’t ceded our advantage. None of this late misery and death would have been possible.

Powell Blames Himself, Others For Specious Iraq WMD Claims to U.N.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3397195/posts

...Powell’s high-profile February 2003 prewar presentation to the U.N. Security Council included now-discredited claims that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had movable biological weapons facilities and was involved in a “sinister nexus” with al-Qaeda.

No evidence of active WMD production facilities or usable stockpiles have been found in Iraq following the U.S.-led March 2003 invasion.
