A mini world war rages in the fields of Aleppo
The Washington Post ^ | February 13, 20164 | Liz Sly

Across the olive groves and wheat fields of the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, a battle with global dimensions risks erupting into a wider war.

Russian warplanes are bombing from the sky. Iraqi and Lebanese militias aided by Iranian advisers are advancing on the ground. An assortment of Syrian rebels backed by the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are fighting to hold them back. Kurdish forces allied both to Washington and Moscow are taking advantage of the chaos to extend Kurdish territories. The Islamic State has snatched a couple of small villages, while all the focus was on the other groups.

Ahead of a supposed pause in the hostilities negotiated by world powers and due to be implemented later in the week, the conflict seems only to be escalating. Turkey joined in over the weekend, firing artillery across its border at Kurdish positions for a second day Sunday and prompting appeals from the Obama administration to both Turks and Kurds to back down.

Syria’s civil war long ago mutated into a proxy conflict, with competing world powers backing the rival Syrian factions almost since the earliest days of the armed rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad.

But perhaps never before have the dangers — or the complications — of what amounts to a mini world war been so apparent as in the battle underway for control of Aleppo.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev warned of the risks at a security conference in Munich on Saturday, saying that the world had already descended into “a new Cold War.”

Quite. They’re all bad, it’s unclear who is siding with whom, few understand why we’re facing WWIII over control of a wasteland (have you SEEN the done flyover videos??), and none understand where we officially stand. And were scheduled to clean it all up, just like WWI & WWII.

It’s largely muslims killing muslims, so we should back off and watch.

It’s bipartisan FUBAR

Mini world war is not completely wrong. So many factions and nations, some of which are allied with many more nations.

Of course World War I might not have happened if everyone had taken Bismarck’s advice. “All of the Balkans are not worth the life of a single Pomeranian Grenadier”.

Maybe the same could be said of Syria.

Indeed it is.....Islam's apocalyptic site that they hope will bring in Nato as well...(the great satan)....best to keep a strong eye on 'Erdogan' he's trying very hard to set the stage so the US and Europe have no choice but to intervene. He's been doing this right from the start of the conflict.....

Two competing teams as far as I can tell:

1. USA, NATO, Australia, former Eastern bloc countries and most of western Europe, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, ISIS (and associated Sunni/Al Qaeda/Muslim Brotherhood affiliates). Their goal is to oust Assad (the Shi’ite) and break the Shi’ite Crescent. Goal number two is to run a natural gas pipeline from Saudi Arabia through Syria and into Europe.

2. Russia (and members of the Commonwealth of Independent States), China, North Korea, India(?), Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and various Shi’ite terrorist organisations. Their goal is stop the West from ousting Assad, maintain the Shi’ite Crescent, and re-establish strong ties with Middle East countries that they had during the Soviet Union era. Second goal is to stop the natural gas pipeline from being built so Russia can continue to make money selling to Europe in which it is the largest exporter of oil and natural gas to.

Central America, South America, Africa, and SE Asia are unknowns to me as to where they stand.

Russia will show off a few new weapon systems and we and everyone else will head for the hills. It won’t be close.

We could only get away with sitting on our asses for so long after the Cold War ended (and while Russia modernized). We sat too long.

Erdogan's Turkish army has been shelling the Azaz border crossing near Minnigh airbase in Aleppo since Saturday.

Damascus therefore sent a letter to the UN condemning Turkey's shelling of northern Syria.... the letter says Turkey's shelling of the Syrian province of Aleppo amounts to direct support for terrorist groups operating in the region.......

“Across the olive groves and wheat fields.....”

Isn’t that romantic?

And the retarded continue their dance for a cease fire.

Can’t we all just get along?

A mini World war, how quaint.

ABSOLUTELY I’ve seen them and you are 100% correct. UNIPARTY FUBAR. Thanks Lurkinanloomin.

536 (+past members) should be in prison. They’ve looted the republic and assisted invaders into the homeland.
