'Thank you Russia!' Life after the siege for pro-regime Syrians
CNN ^ | February 12, 2016 | Frederik Pleitgen

"Thank you Russia! Thank you Hezbollah! Thank you Iran!" shouts the man, as he passes us in the busy square.

Nearby, a photograph of Bashar al-Assad beams down from the front of the town hall, and banners in support of the Syrian President hang outside the main mosque.

This is Nubl, a mostly Shia, pro-government town in Syria, so close to the border with Turkey that on the way here our phones constantly switched to Turkish mobile networks.

Until two weeks ago Nubl and its neighbor al-Zahra were under siege; various rebel factions, including the al-Nusra Front and others linked to the Free Syrian Army, controlled the countryside nearby for more than three years.

Then the Syrian army -- backed by pro-Iranian militias and supported by controversial Russian air strikes -- broke through.

In Nubl, al-Assad-supporting local residents are still jubilant; "God, Syria, Bashar, and nothing else," a group of them chanted as we approached.

I like the work that Assad and Putin are doing in Syria. Here is the Assad Doppelganger in his innermost thoughts ...

You have the IMF which owns the Federal Reserve, the EU banks etc... All these countries are under debt to the IMF.

The only remaining countries that are not , are Russia, China , Iran and maybe a few others.

THE US under Bush and Obama have basically been henchmen to topple and overturn countries AROUND Russia , China and Iran.

THats what the Arab Spring was. THe US sends in rabble rousers to strir up crap, then declares the leader a dictator and we haveto go in illegally.

THere is also a Saudi connection but basically Russia refuses the IMF and Soros coming in and destroying everything like theyve destroyed us.That includes holding on to countries surrounding Russia

Like most I don’t proclaim to know the reality of the underlying power in the world or our USA. We will never know. My sense is that if we ever knew the truth our society would never be the same.

I understand what your saying. However as you follow whats going on in Syria, its coming out the atrocities and underlying power games you are talking about. Obama got caught red handed committing atrocities and it now exposes the ukraine and Yemen. Yet despite that ...Obama trudges on . You are seeing Russia destroying Obamas/Saudi and Turkeys terrorist cells. And Putins even mocking Obama as it goes on.Hes like the Donald Trump of the middle east.

Excellent summation ... Saudi Arabia and Turkey are major players in this insidious plan ... Soros , with their help are responsible for the current muzzie flooding of Europe ...
I’m glad that Russia has stood up to this ...
Unfortunately , every candidate we have running , with the exception of one (Trump) , supports this agenda . If Trump doesn’t win, we will be in a conflict with Russia , guaranteed

This sounds like the white guilt blame America first tripe to absolve these dictators of responsibility. It does not seem the truth for me. It is the riot of the hungry and their hunger is caused by the incompetence of the dictators in charge. They only have their oil for income, but are breeding like rabbits, so now the oil money is spread thin and at the hands of 50 somethings while there is a large bulge of 20 something men with nothing to look forward to as there is no economy other than pumping oil.

This is what the population age pyramid in Syria looks like.

Unfortunately, Islamic societies/cultures/countries tend to want a strong man in power - a dictator. Why because that follow their religious belief which has allah determining everything down to the subatomic level; as above so below. Any notion of western values is anathema to Islam - so it is very difficult to create or sustain over many years anything which looks like a western system; secular Islamic countries have to walk a fine line between religion and western style politics - but they generally fall to some strong man - see Turkey.

Using the western Christian vision of freedom and politics sounds nice, but cannot work in the ME until Islam is eradicated and the culture changed - a process of centuries, if possible at all. You cannot take 300 million people who live at least culturally in the 7th century and impose 21st century values on them overnight.

Railing against the tyrants and despots in the ME is and exercise in expelling personal tensions for all the good it can do.

But the riots are not caused by the “evils” of US. It is caused by nothing working there and them now having western medicine causing the population explosion that the oil revenue can’t keep fed any more.

During the oil boom of the 70s the average Libyan was earning more than the average American. It was because there were only 2 million of them and the oil price was high. Esteemed Colonel, in his infinite wisdom, decided that he needs a large army after 20 years so he created a baby boom. What happened was that nowadays Libya has 6 million people, but the same amount of oil. Colonel’s communist theories failed to create any additional wealth and the money started to run out. In the same infinite wisdom of his that I already mentioned he decided he can only keep his own tribe fed and kicked other tribes away from the oil money tit.

If he couldn’t keep the people happy at the time of $110 barrel crude then there is no way he could do it with the current price of $30. You have to ignore the numbers and rely only on the leftist white guilt and blame America first mentality to find that it is all whitey’s fault and Libya would be a paradise if not for da man.

BTW: this is about Islam and not someone’s wages or personal happiness (which is not allowed in Islam). Nothing ever works in the ME, it just gives the temporary illusion - a mirage of something which could work if it was real, and might work somewhere else but never works in the Islamic ME. Large families are encouraged both by Arab culture and commanded in the koran, any claims by some ruler are just for western consumption - as is most of the nice stuff one hears reported in the MSN.

If you say so ... BTW if you are in the market for a large structure which can be used to cross wide obstacles I’ve got one to sell cheap.

“We produce practically nothing on our own, we can do almost nothing for ourselves, we cannot even manage our wealth.” - Dr. Mahathir Mohammed, the former prime minister of Malaysia, speaking about Islamic nations - 2006.

It’s historical and cultural. It will never change.

If Islamic nations convert to Christianity or if Islam undergoes something similiar to the Protestant Reformation, then yeah things may change.

Islamic nations will convert to Christianity, Judaism, or atheism when Mecca and Median are radioactive blast sites; Islam can be reformed directly afterwards - not before.
