Conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh says Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the best bet for returning Ronald Reagan's principles to the White House.
The controversial radio host said on "The Rush Limbaugh Show" Wednesday that no other Republican presidential candidates have come this close to Reagan in terms of articulated, implementable conservatism.
"If conservatism is your bag, if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote, there is no other choice for you in this campaign than Ted Cruz, because you are exactly right: This is the closest in our lifetimes we have ever been to Ronald Reagan," Limbaugh said.
He criticized former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich for - from his perspective - caving on their conservative principles in order to court more moderate votes in the New Hampshire primary.
"They were going left as fast as [football great] Deion Sanders can backpedal," he said. "They were moving left faster than anybody I've ever seen go left. And I opened the program yesterday saying, 'You will never, ever have to worry about that with Ted Cruz.'"
In recent years, Reagan has emerged as a somewhat mythic hero for American conservatives. Many politicians have tried to align their campaigns with "the Gipper."
The comparison between Cruz and Reagan has been cultivated in large part by Cruz himself. In his Iowa victory speech on Feb. 1, Cruz asked the crowd, "Do you want to know what scares the Washington cartel?"
"You," they shouted back.
"Actually, not remotely. I don't scare them in the tiniest bit. What scares them is you," he said, pointing to the crowd. "What scares them is that the old Reagan coalition is coming back together, of conservatives. We're seeing conservatives and evangelicals and libertarians and Reagan Democrats all coming together as one â and that terrifies Washington, D.C."

The author is with the Cruz campaign.
too bad trump spent years helping the Dems instead of fighting them then he would get the Reaganesqe label.
Cruz oozes something, but it ain’t Reaganesque charm....
Yeah , this has to be the most laughable claim about Cruz yet ... can you imagine if Trump wasn’t in this race ? ...we would lose the general by a landslide
Trump has finally juked Cruz over to the dark side, and now Trump is going sweetness and light! :) It’s like jujitsu. I think it will be fascinating to see if Trump is still lightyears ahead of the rest of the Republican primary candidates, yet again.
No kidding! We now need a barf alert for Rush’s CRuz commentary.

The country doesnt need a Reagan now. These are much different times. It needs Trump.
Trump today pulled a anti-Cruz ad he featured today...I think he know he has to be careful....Cruz pulled one of his as well....might be a soft truce we’re seeing.
Its time to shut off Rushbo, the King of Oxycontin.
Say it LOUD, el Rushbo!

>>America is NOT the same nation as we were in 1980. <<
I would add to this that it is an error, in my opinion, to assume the principles defined Reagan. Rather, it was Reagan who defined the principles. Reagan, THE MAN, not the checklist.
I do not recall there being another Reagan in American history, especially not in the last 7 presidential elections—win or lose. Again, it’s because copying Reagan’s positions does not make one equivalent to him.
I happen to think Trump is the closest IN SOME WAYS — mainly being able to take bold pro-American positions, often ignoring even well-intentioned advice, and to be a GREAT COMMUNICATOR . . . at least in the eyes of some of us.
That my personal conclusion and I think Cruz doesn't give a twit about the Constitution if he is willing to trash Article 2 Section 1.
If Cruz can be president then so could the child of a Mexican drug lord and an American wife living in Mexico. The same would be true for the kids of Princess Grace at the moment of their first breath, or the child of a Middle Eastern prince and his American wife.
This was the very scenario our Founders were trying to avoid.
And...If it takes an essay 500 words long to defend Cruz's natural born status then he isn't a natural born citizen.
I could swear that this was the 3rd or 4th time that this has been posted today, although it seems like the dialogue has had more than one title.
Where was Ted Cruz's mom born?
