Anyone who has done any math at all should realize you can’t find a dozen people who are representative of an entire state.
I can’t find a dozen people representative of a single church or school. It’s just a crazy notion that should be obviously, like you say, PHONY.

Yes, too small a sample size results in bias.
The problem for the anti-Trump effort is that in NH Trump won all groupings that are traditionally used to find out what a population is thinking. This will be repeated in the upcoming states until Trump’s opponents succeed in phrasing their answers better then the Donald. This may not be possible.
As to the crassness, a lot of us take this as showing how silly the movement to Political Correctness has been. Trump can cut it out the same as anyone else when he wants. Right now, it is not a stretch to say that Trump is using this as a way to reach the voter for whom a little crassness is not a factor. (The non-proper, non-elitist, hell someone like me)
