Former Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) said that Congress is considering the creation of an autonomous region in Iraq to protect Christians and Yazidis from persecution by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and criticized the State Department's lack of involvement in the ongoing discussions.
"There are discussions and there will be a resolution introduced in the House, I believe, to set up an into-the-plains, basically a protectorate, whereby Christians, Yazidis and other minorities [will be protected]," Wolf said at an event last week at the National Press Club in Washington.
However, Nina Shea, director of the Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom, noted that since the State Department was not part of the "serious discussion" in Congress, the prospects of establishing a safe zone for persecuted Christians and Yazidis in Iraq were not good. ...

No. We should bring the Christians and Yazidis HERE, and create seafe zones there for the non-Jihaddi Muslims.
Trump plan
Right, another Trump effect.
Obama, kerry, and all of the democrats (and some republicans) in the federal government will fight this tooth and nail.

I totally support a safe zone in Syria! I am totally opposed to Trojan horse Muslims coming here on our soil!!
Meanwhile, Obama’s plan is to let Iran retake Syria and extend its control over Iraq, with Putin’s assistance of course. A direct land bridge for Iran to the Mediterranean Sea is a disaster for the world.
Stopping military and financial support to ISIS by our “allies” (e.g. Turks, Saudis) would be a good start, too. Not creating them in the first place would have been even simpler and less expensive.
Oh, this won’t stop the Muslim “refugees”, obviously.
I can’t recall from whom I heard the idea (might have been someone from Stratfor or some other geopolitical think tank or it might have been John Bolton) that Iraq should probably be dissolved as a nation and split into separate zones/states. Of course the big stink will be over the situs of the oil. I don’t have enough background to positively opine that this would solve anything. It seemed like a valid idea, as good as anything else we’ve botched over there.
The idea on one hand made a lot of sense, but for the love of everything, there is simply no way for the West to “meddle” in the affairs of this region without becoming embroiled and obligated in some unpredictable way or ways. They seem to thrive on being the world’s problem child over there. IOW, there’s no clean end of the turd to pick up.
Sounds to me that dissolving Iraq would make it easier for Iran to take over. Not that the US made it too hard anyhow, by not destroying the Islamic State once in Iraq.
LOOK FOR bABYLON TO BE REBUILT
The disparate treatment we extend to Muslims on the one hand, and Christians on the other, should be an issue in this campaign. Why hasn’t it? We do not need the UN to tell us who is/is not a refuge. WE decided to bring Mexico and Latin America here illegally, and give them welcome. We can do the same for Christians.
A great, winning issue for Republicans (let’s see Sanders/Clinton oppose it) and certainly a worthy cause. Imagine...immigration could be our issue.
We should have got some of our own damned oil elsewhere.
Congress’s a day late and a dollar short... this should have happened a long time ago.
Is it so much better that we gave Iraq’s oil away to China?
Can these “safe zones” become ghettos in which the inhabitants are more easily slaughtered because they have already been rounded up? What about restoring their property to the displaced people instead? That would be the greatest justice. However, I’m not sure anybody wants to look at that.

I’d like to see safe zones for Christians that encompass the entire United States of America.

We are facing a shocking level of pure evil from thugs who get a kick out of imposing their will on victims who are too gentle to resist with the force that these predators deserve.
