The Swiss bank UBS is one of the biggest, most powerful financial institutions in the world. As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton intervened to help it out with the IRS. And after that, the Swiss bank paid Bill Clinton $1.5 million for speaking gigs. The Wall Street Journal reported all that and more Thursday in an article that highlights huge conflicts of interest that the Clintons have created in the recent past.
The piece begins by detailing how Clinton helped the global bank.
âA few weeks after Hillary Clinton was sworn in as secretary of state in early 2009, she was summoned to Geneva by her Swiss counterpart to discuss an urgent matter. The Internal Revenue Service was suing UBS AG to get the identities of Americans with secret accounts,â the newspaper reports. âIf the case proceeded, Switzerlandâs largest bank would face an impossible choice: Violate Swiss secrecy laws by handing over the names, or refuse and face criminal charges in U.S. federal court. Within months, Mrs. Clinton announced a tentative legal settlementâan unusual intervention by the top U.S. diplomat. UBS ultimately turned over information on 4,450 accounts, a fraction of the 52,000 sought by the IRS.â

There is an inherent political conflict of interest here. The IRS wants 52,000 names. The Secretary of State cuts a deal where the bank gives up a fraction of them. Who is she to decide who gets turned over and who does not? What criteria were used? What due process did the 4,450 get? And what was expected from the rest? For how much were they blackmailed?
The sheer scale of corruption is staggering.
Atlantic is a respected ( leftist) magazine. A less respectable leftist rag ( “salon”) did another expose of Hillary just a couple days ago. It looks like Hillary’s losing her media booster club support base?
Good questions all. And as far as blackmail in this day and age of no morals to speak of, what is blackmailable (if that is a word) must be pretty bad.
What’s blackmailable is: “We don’t have to tell the IRS about your secret bank account if the price is right. Please send whatever your conscience believes is necessary to hclinton@slushfundserver.net. A good starting point for your conscience is the biggest number you can think of, and put two more zeroes on it.”
Atlantic and salon are in love with Bernie as a true communist. If her thighness is nominated, all sins will be forgiven and Atlantic and salon will toe the party line for cankles. After the editors have been “re-educated,” of course.
Good point.
But will Lynch investigate? I doubt it.
Someone please tell me why the HELL am I paying taxes?
