Sen. John McCain Monday slammed Donald Trump's comments over the weekend praising the merits of waterboarding, saying that that anyone who claims the extreme interrogation technique is a way to get useful information is lying.
"This is a near-death experience," McCain said on Fox News' "Outnumbered" program, which his daughter, Meghan, co-hosts. "They will tell that person who is administering that anything they want to hear."
During Saturday night's GOP debate and on several Sunday morning shows, Trump commented that if he becomes president, he would "absolutely authorize" waterboarding or "a hell of a lot worse."
"They're chopping off heads of Christians and many other people in the Middle East," Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper on the "State of the Union" program. "They're chopping heads off, they laugh at us when they hear we're not going to approve waterboarding and then they'll have a James Foley and others where they cut off their heads." McCain, who himself was tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, pointed out that the Geneva convention prohibits the technique, and there has been a 93-3 vote in the Senate to stop it.
Further, the Arizona Republican issued an official statement on Monday on the topic, quoting several experts who call the practice's outcome dangerous for American military personnel.

“Anyone who runs for president should give up His senate seat. They used to”.
In the last 68 years only one US Senator has resigned his Senate seat to run for President. here are the elections involving US Senators. I didn’t have time to look at elections prior to 1948, but I can’t remember any Senator other than Dole resigning to run.
1948. - Senator Strom Thurmond ran on a third party ticket against Truman and Dewey. He did not resign his seat.
1952 - Robert Taft ran for the GOP nomination against Eisenhower. He did not resign his Senate seat.
1960 - JFK and LBJ competed for the Democrat nomination. Neither resigned their Senate seats. JFK did not resign his Senate seAt during the general election.
1964 -Senator Barry Goldwater did not resign his Senate seat to run against LBJ in the general election.
1968 - A number of Democrat Senators vied for the nomination including RFK and Gene McCarthy. None resigned their Senate seat.
1972 - Senator George McGovern did not resign his seat to run against Richard Nixon.
1996 - Senator Bob Dole did resign his Senate seat to run against Bill Clinton.
2004 - John Kerry did not resign his Senate seat to run against GW Bush.
2008 - McCain and Obama were both US Senators. Neither resigned their seats to run.
2016 - none of the US Senators running for President have indicated they will resign from the Senate if they get their party’s nomination for President
The tradition has been that politicians keep their jobs when running for President. Senators, governors, representatives, attorneys, and businessmen keep their jobs during the campaign in case they lose..
Anyone who listens to a loser is a loser.
Lets waterboard Trump to see if he is REALLY pro-life.
What could it hurt.
Let’s rape female prisoners and male prisoners, that will send fear.
Lets rape their children to get info.
Lets become monsters....monsters always win.
We abort. the mosters are us.
When I was reclined on that board, my head covered with a wet, stinky towel and water poured on it I was ready to admit to the Lindbergh kidnapping in about 30 seconds.
A Mexican friend of mine who had a traffic accident in Juarez signed a confession. When I asked him why he said let me handcuff you to a chair and squirt a 16 oz Pepsi up your nose and see how long you hold out. Did not leave a mark.
I say, waterboard McCain! Let’s get answers as to why both houses rubberstamped everything in Obola’s hopechest. Detailed answers. Make the rat fink sing like a canary!
It sure wasn’t necessary to use on McCain.
And, on a related note, he also ignores that, after a person talks, the person is not immediately released from custody, and our intelligence people seek to verify/corroborate what they've said. So, making something up to end the waterboarding may work....once.
I would politely disagree...
A “liar” implies some degree of intelligence and knowledge of right from wrong, In this case I would think McCain is exhibiting a never-before observered level of stupidity, not intelligence!
John the canary sings too much.
put up a drooling bill clintoon next to a drooling juan McLame.
Both as dumb as a box of cocoa puffs.
Try talking to that fat ugly bastard - What’s his name? that they water boarded into giving up everything he knew about everything Juan.
In interrogation, even lies matter to a trained interrogator. He knows that the prisoner will try to lie, but He keeps on asking the same questions over and over, sometimes with a twist, and eventually the prisoner trips himself up or lets something useful slip.
And then there are the tidbits of good info that operatives are trained to give up, albeit slowly.
And there are people who haven’t been trained to withstand the technique and give up everything they know immediately.
I would say the questions is are we on the side of Trump or Cruz/McCain? My vote is with Trump. I can’t believe Cruz would hide behind McCain’s comment. But he did and it shows his weakness.
I don't think he flew F4s because they don't appear on the list of planes he wrecked or bent.

His liberalism is leaking out with this latest comment.
Waterboarding and torture in general does not have a good track record of working.. McCain is right on this one... with that said however, I have no issue if some fundamentalist islam who is plotting to kill americans gets tortured.
Raise your hand if you don’t think water boarding would work on you. :-)
Guessing Mcstain was offended by the word pussy as well.
Water board all the little f’ers, and mccain can bma.
McLame waterborads himself everyday dribbling his oatmeal.
