Sen. John McCain Monday slammed Donald Trump's comments over the weekend praising the merits of waterboarding, saying that that anyone who claims the extreme interrogation technique is a way to get useful information is lying.
"This is a near-death experience," McCain said on Fox News' "Outnumbered" program, which his daughter, Meghan, co-hosts. "They will tell that person who is administering that anything they want to hear."
During Saturday night's GOP debate and on several Sunday morning shows, Trump commented that if he becomes president, he would "absolutely authorize" waterboarding or "a hell of a lot worse."
"They're chopping off heads of Christians and many other people in the Middle East," Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper on the "State of the Union" program. "They're chopping heads off, they laugh at us when they hear we're not going to approve waterboarding and then they'll have a James Foley and others where they cut off their heads." McCain, who himself was tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, pointed out that the Geneva convention prohibits the technique, and there has been a 93-3 vote in the Senate to stop it.
Further, the Arizona Republican issued an official statement on Monday on the topic, quoting several experts who call the practice's outcome dangerous for American military personnel.

We get it, you Trump followers love your red meat. Me? I want a principled, consistent conservative who gives substantive answers to difficult questions.
McCain: Anyone Who Says Waterboarding Works is a Liar’
Anyone that believes anything McCain says is a fool.
Waterboarding is not torture and it does work.
Why does this guy have any credibility? He is a useful tool for the left, nothing more.
Boy, then are you outta luck!
McCain just shut up. Go back in your senile cage.
A lot of what would go on in a POW camp would be not so much to get information, at least after a while, but to ensure compliance and docility among the inmates.
You run one time, you got yourself a set of chains. You run twice, you got yourself two sets. You ain’t gonna need no third set ‘cause you’re gonna get your mind right. And I mean RIGHT.
They never won that conflict on the ground. Just like Iraq, we won and then the govt gave the victory away.
He knows. The ChiComs didnât waterboard him and they got all the Information they wanted plus propaganda radio broadcasts and the ratting out of his fellow inmates. And all it took was a few plates of extra food.
Then he got elected and attached a rider to a bill that sealed his POW records for 99 years

Trump said one thing out loud what I always thought - McCain is no war hero.
Flame away.
FUJM
Oh heck, just drown them. Keeps them from getting let out of GITMO by some loony leftist.
Anyone Who Says McCain isnt senile is a Liar.
He makes a fundamental logical error in assuming that just because the person tells the interrogator what they want to hear, that it’s automatically not the truth.
McCain calls someone else a liar. LOL
Since 1945, when has the Geneva Convention ever protected an American POW?
It’s not a trick question, because the answer is: never.
To use McStain as a good source, on water boarding, or any other topic, is nothing short of embarrassing.
That is because McCain didn’t need any incentives to screw the pooch and give up secret intel when he was a captive. He just did it relying on his celebrity status as the son and grandson of USN admirals to avoid mistreatment.
