Donald Trump won more votes in the Iowa caucuses than any Republican candidate in history.
Impressive, except Ted Cruz set the new all-time record.
And Marco Rubio exceeded all expectations by taking 23 percent.
Cruz won tea party types, evangelicals and the hard right.
Trump won the populists and nationalists who want the borders secure, no amnesty and no more trade deals that enable rival powers like China to disembowel American industries.
And Rubio? He is what columnist Mark Shields called Jimmy Carter, 35 years ago, âthe remainderman of national politics. He gets whatâs left over after his opponents have taken theirs by being the least unacceptable alternative to the greatest number of voters.â

For there is not one America today, nor two. Politically, there are at least four. Were this Britain or France, the GOP would have long ago split between its open-borders, globalist, war-party wing, and its populist, patriotic, social conservative wing. The latter would be demanding a timeout on immigration, secure borders, no amnesty, no more needless wars and a trade policy dictated by what was best for America, not Davos or Dubai. Democrats would break apart along the lines of the Clinton-Sanders divide, with the neo-socialists becoming a raucous and robust anti-big bank, anti-Wall Street, soak-the-rich and share-the-wealth party.
This is why we need to break the deadlock of the two party system. The GOP establishment doesn't have much to offer to the kind of voters that Donald Trump (and in the past Pat Buchanan or Ross Perot) attracted. What do candidates like Bush and Rubio put on the plate for people who oppose illegal immigration, outsourcing, and wasted blood and national treasure in "nation building" exercises? More of the same.
Also, I think that many on the Right minimize the difference between someone like Sanders and someone like Clinton, claiming that Sanders just says out loud what the Clintons won't say for opportunistic reasons. In fact, there's actually a substantive difference between Sanders supporters who want Euro-Style socialism and Clinton Democrats who want crony capitalism. Both are wrong-headed, but they aren't the same thing and don't attract the same constituency.
I hope Bush, Ksick and Christie hang in there a little longer as they bleed votes from Marco. The more the public sees of Marco the less they like him.
I will support either Cruz or Trump. If Rubio or Christie is the nominee, I will hold my nose and vote against Hillary.
If Yeb! or Kasich is the nominee, I honestly don’t know if I will vote. I held my nose and voted against Obama in 2008 and 2012, because I was able to convince myself that McCain and Romney could not possibly be as bad as Obama. I just don’t know if I can convince myself that Yeb! and Kasich are any better than Hillary.
Unfortunately, even if Jeb, Kasich, and Christie are in the race until the end, their delegates can still all go to Rubio in a brokered convention if nobody has a clear majority. Furthermore, Superdelegates are basically RNC votes, they will go to Rubio or whoever else represents the party establishment.
“I hope Bush, Ksick and Christie hang in there a little longer as they bleed votes from Marco. The more the public sees of Marco the less they like him.”
Me too! Rubio is not the kind of man who should be anywhere near the Presidency. He’s already said “he’s tired of the Senate,”(where he’s accomplished exactly zip). We don’t need him to get prematurely “tired” of being President. We’ve had one of those for the past seven years, looting the Treasury for lavish vacations and playing golf ad nauseum.

I'm more or less in the same boat as you. I'll vote for either Trump or Cruz in the primaries (whichever of the two has the most delegates by then and the best chance of beating the establishment). If we're stuck with Rubio, Christie, or Kasich I may hold my nose as I did with Romney in 2012 just to stop Hillary, though it will be as bad if not worse than voting for Romney.
If a brokered convention gives us Jeb, there's no way in hell I'm voting for him.
Meet the GOP's Obama: all hype and smooth talk (though not so smooth in the last debate), no accomplishments or substance.
I feel pretty certain that we will have a clear winner going into the convention.
” all hype and smooth talk (though not so smooth in the last debate), no accomplishments or substance.”
Yeah, looks as though his “record” got a scratch on it during the last debate and the needle kept skipping back to the beginning repeatedly.
Rubio swings both ways!
This was a wonderful article with a real conservative perspective from a truly great man.

Same here, but I won’t vote for ANY of The Cheap Labor Express candidates.
Trump or Cruz.
More like Rainman.
Limbaugh is pathetic..defending his little boy Marcobot. I had to turn it off
'Kid' Rubio was all to anxious to join the Republican & Democrat Washington Elite and become a member of their special club.
#rubot
Yes..and the fact is Marcobot just memorizes responses. He can’t think for himself. Even Ben Shapiro said it today about a converstation he had with him. He is a Republican Obama-programmed, slick and not as smart as everybody thinks.
No thank you. I will never vote for this guy..ever
Rubio says american workers can’t cut it, wants to triple immigration and H1b visas, wants TPP which will destroy american jobs even more, he is a globalist,,these positions are indefensible.
Limbaugh is an establishment Hack. He is being exposed. I understand Levin being for crux but there is no reason for Marcobot to be defended at all. none
I agree.
