Donald Trump Fires Back At Jeb Bush On His Family's Own History With Eminent Domain (TX Rangers)

Real estate mogul Donald Trump Sunday fired back at Republican presidential rival Jeb Bush on the subject of eminent domain, pointing out the Bush family once benefited financially from the government's power to seize private property for public development without owners' consent.

-snip-

"Eminent domain is a very important thing," Trump said. "Jeb Bush doesn't understand what it means. And if you look into the Bush family - I found this out 5 minutes ago. They used eminent domain for the stadium in Texas where they owned, I guess, a piece of the Texas Rangers."

Before he was elected governor of Texas, George W. Bush was a part-owner of the Texas Rangers. When the Major League Baseball team sought a new stadium in 1990, voters agreed to fund the bulk of construction costs with a sales tax increase, ESPN reported. The following year the Rangers persuaded the Legislature to pass a bill empowering a new "quasi-governmental entity" to use eminent domain, the sports network reported. The city of Arlington then used that power "to acquire the property from hundreds of private owners," Reason magazine reported.

Bam! A double punch to the JEBe!

Am I remembering correctly about some Freepers and many others who traveled to Florida to protest a land grab by Gov. Bush who was taking farms for everglades restoration???

AH, yes, here it is! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1013650/posts
FLORIDA DONATES LAND FOR EXPANSION OF EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK

Also, Scotus John Roberts, friend of Ted Cruz and recruited by Cruz does not object to the Kelo decision. He says the congress still has the power to regulate Kelo, if they choose to.

Meh, national audience to a debate not that tuned in to some of these minor nuances.

They are aware of it.

We know this very well off couple, we call the pure GOPes, Lat week, they started trying to tease me about Trump being evil with re eminent domain.

They have season box seat tickets for the SF Giants at AT&T Park and the 49ers at Levi Stadium and were going to the Super Bowl.

I stopped their tirade and told them to give us their Super Bowl tickets, Giant tickets and 49er tickets because eminent domain forced out homeowners and businesses at both sites for elites like them. Since they were against eminent domain, they should give their tickets away.

The lady did not understand, her husband said that was different. I told him that was bs, and he knew it.

They did not give away their Super Bowl Tickets and the season tickets for the Giants and 49ers.
