Four days after winning the Iowa caucuses, Cruz's team is still struggling to answer questions about whether it relied on trickery to pad its lead by convincing Iowans that Carson - a rival for evangelical votes - was dropping out of the race. What the Cruz campaign initially called a knee-jerk response to ambiguous news reports has been revealed to be a more coordinated effort to steer Carson voters to the Cruz camp amid the chaotic caucus atmosphere.
A campaign of tweets, emails and calls to Cruz precinct captains encouraged the rapid spread of the news that Carson would be leaving the race and that a vote for him would be a "waste." The Cruz camp denies that it did anything other than pass along accurate news reports.
Anecdotal evidence has emerged that some voters who had intended to back Carson changed their minds after hearing the news. And perhaps more significantly, a pile-on by Cruz's opponents has kept the pressure on the Texas senator's campaign.
In at least one case, the misinformation left its mark. Waterloo resident Becky Smith said she stepped into the George Washington Carver Academy to cast her first-ever vote in the Iowa caucuses for Carson. She registered onsite as a Republican, switching her affiliation as an independent, so she could cast her ballot. But a man helping distribute ballots - she didn't know his name or campaign affiliation - said he had just heard that Carson was "suspending his campaign."

Did Mrs Carson set the record straight?
How'd that go for you?
Was sausage made in front of you?
I know what it means. I also know what dodging the question means.
Rush is far from supporting Trump; he more in Cruz’s corner. Yes, it would make Cruz lose Iowa, it was that close.
I’ll be interested if tonight anyone makes a meal out of it. The story is not going away apparently.
Yeah, just like that voter mailing was a tar baby.
Oh wait.......l
If the incident is being blown out of proportion, it’s because Team Cruz chose to blast the rumor out to all 1,500 of their precinct captains the night of the caucus.
Wouldn’t be none if they didn’t start none.
Denial doesn’t look good on a freeper.
Just sayin’.
Give it up, it was sleazy, it was wrong, and you just want to excuse it by saying move on.
Hey, you could start some kind of fund raising website with that name.......
I wasn’t there
Integrity is not one of his attributes that is for sure.
Voting for a leftist like Trump over a conservative like Cruz looks worse on a freeper.
Just sayin.......
Couple the Ted Cruz underhanded moves to bring Ben Carson down, and, best Donald Trump in the Iowa Caucus and his open and loving association with raving madman, lunatic, nutcase, ego-maniac, Glenn Beck...and, any voter in New Hampshire that votes for Ted Cruz is either high on reefer or just plain insane. This guy Cruz is naught but a litte “Hitler”....he will do anything legal or illgal to win!!!
Folks, in New Hampshire, Broom Ted Cruz next Tuesday in your primary!!! Vote for Donald J. Trump, the only candidate, not controlled by special interests, that will act forcefully, quickly and save the American Republic!!!
GO DONALD TRUMP!!!
Cruz should fire Jeff Roe, his dirty tricks campaign director instead
Cruz needed to fire someone yet hasn’t
>> the fact is, it’s become a tar baby for Cruz
Yep, just like that “tar baby” birther crap that dogged him before Iowa. He and his campaign were unable to deal with it — unable to get past it. It totally crippled them. I think that’s what caused Ted to come in fourth in Iowa, frankly.
...
oh wait...
“Have you ever worked in a real live political campaign?
Have you ever watched sausage being made?”
So you are saying the end justifies the means?
Sorry but it is Cruz’s fault. You can blame Carson, GOPe, and Trump, but this is completely 100 percent Cruz’s fault. It isn’t even the fact that he did this, it is the aftermath that he made a mess of.
Regardless.......Cruz’s fault and because people took advantage is still Cruz’s fault.
you pretty much have to pay people to show up in Iowa by living there for a year and kissing ass.. Cruz did and beat Trump by 6000 votes when Trump barely went there and practically spent nothing
“Thought it was determined by now it was Rubioâs camp that started spreading the rumors that Carson was dropping out.”
It was how Cruz ran with it.
