Trump resists staff calls to change course
National Journal ^ | 2/3/12 | Ben Schreckinger

In the lead-up to Donald Trump's loss in Iowa, staffers sought additional funding for campaign infrastructure and were denied.

Now, six days from the New Hampshire primary and looking for his first win, Trump is still refusing to shake up his ground game. He has added just one paid organizer in the state, a move that came a month ago. Instead, he is pushing ahead with plans to campaign outside of the state in the final week of voting and will count on the glamour of famous surrogates, including his sons, who plan to tour New Hampshire beginning this weekend.

But while the campaign has shifted resources into the first primary state, that move amounted to a single staffer - Stuart Jolly, a former Americans for Prosperity operative brought onto the campaign to focus on the Southern states that vote on March 1.

One person familiar with the move said Jolly was brought in because New Hampshire state director Matt Ciepielowski, a 2011 college graduate, was "in over his head."

You are correct. Little has been said about the problems Mike Lee has been facing, nor does there seem to be much support given to him compared to the support he delivered.

He was 20 pts ahead before IOWA - he's not now - might still be leading but I expect a drop in the polls by this weekend - it's normal for polls to tighten when you underperform expectations

I also find it troubling that he doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes in IA - all he needs to do is improve his GOTV infrastructure....

Good summary, and their presidencies would be run the same way. Anti-establishment vs establishment, with the lying and intimidation that goes with it.

I didn't even know he had sons, let alone famous ones! Stunt campaigners - unforced Trump error #32.

Very good!

I agree with you. A very concise analysis of what may lie ahead.

Slow Joe rides to the rescue for The Dems!

I don’t know but I’m getting nervous and wish he was more disciplined when it comes to blurting out tweets. We need to hear his plans now so people don’t tune him out and tire of the same rally speech

“If Donnie can’t buy it, he won’t work to get it. “

You are eaten up with envy.

Trump has a phenomenal work ethic. He is also relentless with his business deals, not giving up until he pursues every possible option. His personality loves a challenge, and as he says, money is just a way of keeping track.

He’ll bring that to the Oval Office, and get his written policies implemented even under difficult circumstances (a RINO congress).

Maybe Trump will be “chintzy” about spending our tax dollars?

Not likely. The Clintons were also notoriously tight with their own money, but it had zero effect on their love of spending ours.

“It’s also probably why he flies home every night instead of staying in a local establishment, or even at the home of a friend of the campaign. “

He likes to sleep in his own bed. Who doesn’t?

And he has his own jet to do it with. The other candidates don’t have that option, or they’d have to use donor money.

He’s been very tactile - shaking hands, touching veterans’ faces, kissing babies.

What a ridiculous rumor!

Why limit yourself to just 4 fantasy voters per precinct? Maybe the Cruz folks flipped 35 gullible Carson supporters per precinct! Who knows? Without this "subterfuge," perhaps Carson would have had 36% in Iowa and your boy Trump would still have been 2nd place!

That's what I'm talking about! Heck, maybe Cruz's shenanigans convinced 2,000 Carson voters per precinct to switch sides or just go home! But for Cruz's shady tactics, perhaps every single person in Iowa would have voted for Carson!

He talks about the border all the time - he’s hardly abandoned it.

Posters complain when he says the same thing at rallies (how would anyone have time for a new speech with each one anyway) and then complain when he adds something new.

Trump is his own man, calling his own shots, and running his own campaign with his own money, and in the end he will have to live with whatever the result and can say "I did it my way".

While blaming the failure on everyone but him.

“Sen. Cruz damn near caused Mike Lee to end up with a very well funded, establishment, primary opponent that probably would have beat him.”

How did Cruz nearly cause that?

Who in their right mind would be “envious” of Trump?

He was born rich, traded on Daddy’s contacts and acted like a spoiled brat everywhere else because he knew he could get away with it, and whenever the going gets tough...Donnie gets going. That is, running away.
