Ted Cruz unloaded on his rival Donald Trump after the real estate mogul accused him of voter fraud over Twitter. "I wake up every day and laugh at the latest thing Donald has tweeted," said Cruz, calling Wednesdayâs outburst a "Trumpertantrum" brought on by Trump's inability to "debate the substance."
On Wednesday morning, Trump sent out a series of tweets demanding the caucus results in Iowa be nullified due to what he claimed was voter fraud perpetrated by the Cruz campaign. In particular, Trump singled out reports that the Cruz campaign told voters during the caucus Dr. Ben Carson had dropped out of the race, causing some of them to switch to Cruz.
At a press conference before a meeting with voters in Goffstown, New Hampshire, the new frontrunner in the Republican race pulled no punches. "It is no surprise that Donald is throwing yet another temper tantrum â or if you like, another Trumpertantrum," Cruz said. "It seems his reaction to everything is to throw a fit, and I understand that Donald finds it very hard to lose. But at the end of the day, the people of Iowa spoke."
"There's a reason that Donald engages in insult after insult - because he can't debate the substance," Cruz continued. "He doesn't actually want to talk about issues."
The Texas senator wasn't done. "Donald's insults get more and more hysterical the more and more upset he gets," Cruz said. "I think they're very funny. I wake up every day and laugh at the latest thing Donald has tweeted." He questioned Trump's temperament for the job of commander-in-chief, saying "we're liable to wake up one day and Donald, as president, will have nuked Denmark."
"You know, my girls are five and seven," Cruz said. "And I got tell you, Caroline and Catherine are better behaved than a presidential candidate who insults people every day." The line drew cheers and huge applause from the assembled New Hampshirites waiting to meet him.
Asked whether Cruz planned to fire the staffers accused of misleading Iowa caucus-goers, the senator demurred. "This is not a campaign that scapegoats our staffers, that holds someone out and fires them for political purposes," he told a reporter. "And I would note that the news story we passed on was true and accurate . . . is it a dirty trick to pass on your news stories?"
I think you’re right about Cruz, but Trump is going to wear on people for a different reason. He has fun and enjoys people all right, but he’s also an ill-mannered boor who can’t stand not getting his way.
Both of them will eventually end up yielding to Rubio, who is far better at staying on message and connecting with people in a positive manner. Cruz just doesn’t have the ability to engage the audience, no matter how smart he is and how good a debater he is. He can’t seem to appeal emotionally, only logically. Logically is good, but a politician has to also appeal emotionally.
In fact, Obama pretty much showed us that only emotional appeal is sufficient, if it’s done well enough. Logic be damned.
Noting good, I’m certain.
I guess we’ll all see how this plays out...
Cruz and his cocky attitude, while fooling the weak minded, will be his undoing.
He must of picked up the clever twists on name calling from his paid fans that hang out all across the net.
Rove is part of the same RINO Establishment who have repeated over and over that they prefer Trump over Cruz. So it is no mystery what is going on here.
#1...Who's hiding?
Cruz apologized. Has Rubio?
#2...Who's hiding?
The Carson team is calling for a firing.
Usually w/any HR investigations, it takes a few days (or more).
If the staffer is guilty, who's put up any argument firing him?
#3 No politician -- and no candidate -- micromanages every move of their staffers. To expect otherwise is ludicrous; and to assume that this was Cruz-ordered lacks cause & effect.
#4 Answer the Q directly instead of ducking it: Have you or have you not -- (including before the last couple of hrs) -- raised any "outrage" toward the Rubio campaign. A simple 'yes' or 'no' will do, thank you.
So Cruz mocks Trump and apologizes to Carson for the same thing.
Uh-huh.
..#4 Answer the Q directly instead of ducking it: Have you or have you not — (including before the last couple of hrs) — raised any “outrage” toward the Rubio campaign. A simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ will do, thank you...
I was unaware of Rubio involvement. Cruz and Rubio and anyone else involved in the Carson disgrace should be called out. If he was in on this he is equally culpable too. Happy now?
Thank you for responding. (I've known other Freepers in the past who've ignored these type of direct Qs...so kudos to you for responding directly to the Q)
So as for the content of your response...OK, I can understand that...PRIOR to 7+ hrs ago...up until I gave you a direct link in post #50 to a Rush article -- an article posted on FR 8+ hrs. ago citing multiple Rubio staffers as behind spreading the rumor. (And, btw, Rush said he "liked Marco Rubio" per an FR thread headline posted Feb. 2nd...so this wasn't simply a Rush "snipe" job)
So, here's the timeline:
8+ hrs. ago the Rush headline posted on FR re: Rubio staffers behind rumor-mongering
7+ hrs. ago you bash Cruz over this
7+ hrs ago -- 9 minutes after your post -- I reference a couple of articles, including Rush's, pinpointing Rubio staffers involvement
7+ hrs ago -- 9 minutes after my post -- you ping me & bash Cruz again
5+ hrs ago -- you respond to my post to you about "selective outrage" (toward Cruz, but not Rubio)...& accuse Cruz supporters of ducking this issue.
So, finally, 90+ minutes ago -- over 5.5 hrs. after I pointed out Rubio staffers' involvement in the rumor-mongering, do we see any provocational response where you actually target Rubio. ????
See what I mean?
1 Cruz staffer involved in rumor-mongering; multiple Rubio staffers involved.
Who'd you go after consistently? Cruz. But not -- until I called you out on it -- Rubio.
If this issue was really about ANY given candidate's staff engaged in rumor-mongering, you would have gone after Rubio with equal teeth.
But, no.
You've proved my point: Selective "outrage," indeed.
On the surface, it appears to me that your provocation was more about attempting to exploit the targeting of THE leading candidate vs. the issue itself. If I'm wrong, set me right.
Trump is so bombastic even Cruz adopted Trump’s positions .. nice try , but you failed
Hey, relax, don't despair. He could still step in front of a speeding bus.
False dilemma. Cruz is an attorney ..... OR smarmy opportunist.
"Smarmy opportunist" or .... nothing else.
Why don't you just say "I hate Ted Cruz's guts and hope he chokes on a live squid"? It'd be much more effective, better and cleaner argument, and not as arch.
Trump has met his match!
I initially thought that when Trump would become unhinged, that it was just an act, a calculated way to in fact unhinge his opponent, and I kind of liked that.
Now I think, the derangement syndrome is real - the slightest challenge will set him off, regardless of where it’s coming from.
Cruz so far has been rather mild in his attacks toward Trump, compared to what Trump has dished out against Cruz, but I wonder how long it will be before Cruz starts questioning Trump’s sanity, that he’s dangerously deranged.
Cruz was calling for border security, gun rights, the sanctity of life and traditional marriage, and was taking hits from both sides for taking a principled stand against Obamacare long before Trump ever bellowed his way onto the stage. And no one really knows what really stands for, anyway. His policy stances have been all over the map.
The failure is all yours.
Pretty sore “lost nothing” kind of guy I guess...
Only when speaking badly about them.
Of course they are not running for president, but the fact that the man running for president recognizes polite behavior is a definite plus.
“the fact that the man running for president recognizes polite behavior is a definite plus.”
I don’t approve of Trump’s impoliteness or crude language. However, Obama is polite and doesn’t use crude language.
This false news was sent to 1,500 Cruz precinct captains who used it to get Carson voters to switch to Cruz. It should have been verified. That is what was despicable.
Doesn't matter if you are on the receiving end of a rumor.
You are & I am on various levels. (Happens all the time just reading FR!)
So who cares how many rec'd a given rumor. It's what you do with it.
And the fact is that Carson's team went after ONLY A SINGLE Cruz staffer over this issue.
Other than that, you didn't admit to your selective outrage about such "despic-ability."
If it was such a "despicable" issue that stuck in your moral craw, why no provocative action in negatively painting Rubio UNTIL I called you on it?
Sorry...but your silence for so many hrs on this thread about Rubio gives us all the indicator we need about how "outraged" you are about it. :)
