National Review takes a victory lap over Trump
Politico ^ | 2/2/16 | ELIZA COLLINS

National Review's editor Rich Lowry is thrilled Donald Trump didn't win in Iowa on Monday, and he thinks January's special issue of the magazine, titled "Conservatives Against Trump," had something to do with it.

The conservative publication came out with an editorial and essays from 22 prominent conservatives, effectively declaring war on the Republican Party's poll leader just days before GOP primary voters cast their first ballots of the 2016 election cycle.

Lowry began by thanking those who had participated in the issue and other anti-Trump conservatives, like super PAC founder Katie Packer, just after Cruz's win was announced on Monday night via Twitter:

Very revealing moment.
I really thought Rush was on the side of the citizens until that.

“What’s he going to say if Trump wins big in NH?”

“Er, this was expected. Cruz needed to take a much-needed rest. He’s saving his strength for (insert state here). Blah blah blah.”

I hope when Trump wins that state that we all call for Cruz to officially withdraw from the race as a non-serious candidate.

Like what are these guys going to say? That such bold pronouncements are “way too early”?

What "victory"? The Iowa caucuses? Have these guys ever been involved in American politics before?

It's a little embarrassing, to be honest. I'm trying to savor a Cruz surge and the idiots are crowding forward to claim credit for themselves. Trust me, fellas, it isn't about NR, it really isn't.

If Rubio is elected, he will abandon the rule of law and give the Democrats a permanent majority.
That’s not conservative.
That’s insane.

Limbaugh: ‘I Don’t Like This Idea’ of Rubio Labeled as ‘an Establishment Candidate’

The true Rush was exposed today, and he is a Rino.

Thanks for the reminder—will point out though that it seems that Trump is getting hit by both the left and the right—never seen anything like it; at least McDaniel had Levin and Rush—

Rush and Hannity actually spent huge amounts of time talking up Rubio today...Rubio?!?!

NR had nothing to do with anything. They have been irrelevant for 30 years.

You are watching the GOPe wing of the DC Uni-Party trying to destroy the outsiders.

These are not your parent’s Republicans!

You just don't understand.

Rush thinks Rubio is a REAL CONSERVATIVE because he always drinks Two If By Tea while he reads the latest edition of Rush Revere.

I don’t think Rush is a RINO.
He may have a blind spot for Rubio.
Rubio is still for amnesty and that is not only not conservative, it is insanity.
I will not vote for national suicide.
Have to do it without my vote.

LOL, and that will mean what exactly when we get millions more illegals?

Rubio is a little boy and I’m disgusted that Rush would lay claim that he’s NOT GOPe - pathetic.

That’s what I keep thinking. Iowa is not really a victory. One delegate difference between the three.

I’m actually a bit weary of hearing about Iowa. The ‘value voters’... How can they be value voters if they throw so many votes to Hildy and Bernie?

Rush is listening to his idiot brother and Levin.

I’m not done with Rush yet, but he sure is disappointing me lately.

I really haven’t listened to him consistently over the years. I’d catch him here and there and this past year, started listening more frequently.

He played it so cool, dancing in the middle lane.

What he said today is something I can’t get over.
I should have known, thanks for reminding me.

I just as spitting mad that the game has been exposed -
it’s Rubio for the win and the little a**holes that drive all this crap behind the scenes, are at it full steam.

And I’m more convinced then ever that Cruz is playing along, how could he not? Amnesty anyone? How about TPA, or whatever the other name for the God awful trade agreement is - and for a good laugh, let’s toss in Goldman Saks. What a joke.
