...said they were in favor of the change during an occasionally contentious Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the forthcoming full integration of women in the military. They offered their opinions in response to a question from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who said that she also is in favor of the change.
"Senator, it's my personal view that, based on this lifting of restrictions... every American who's physically qualified should register for the draft," Neller said.
"Senator, I think that all eligible and qualified men and women should register for the draft," said Milley.
The comments are a first in the Defense Department. Previously, senior defense officials have said only that the issue would need to be researched following Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter's historic decision in December to open all jobs in the military to women without exception.
Carter's action allows women for the first time to apply for a variety of physically punishing positions, including Army and Marine Corps infantryman, as well as Special Operations jobs, including Navy SEAL and Green Beret. The Defense Department plans to begin implementing associated changes in training and evaluation by April 1.
The Selective Service System has existed for decades, and was created to make sure the military has enough manpower when it is short-handed in a time of war. A variation of it was first adopted in 1917, as the United States prepared to join enter World War I.
But Selective Service laws have never required women to subject themselves to the draft and face the prospect of being forced into military service. The current version of the Military Selective Service Act requires that virtually all men in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 register, most within 30 days of turning 18. That includes non-U.S. citizens...

this I agree with. if women are now eligible for all positions within the military as ordered by the Secretary of Defense, they should also be subject to the draft. I think the draft should be brought back, compulsory military or national service for all youth of the entire nation. similar to Israel. including all these layabout youth which are found throughout our population. I think there should be stratas of national service, those that are too heavily tattooed or have criminal records should be mandatory assigned to various national infrastructure labor jobs, rebuilding our highways our bridges, a National Service Corps. boys and girls, men and women. and all those that physically qualify should serve a term of not less than 2 years in the military, with their choice of service branch.as I look around and see all the nearly useless slacker youth, I think of this as the best alternative. a return of a mandatory draft international service for all young men and women. if they refuse to serve then their right to vote and right to public subsidies are forever removed from their lives. if they won’t help their country we don’t need their input
On the other hand, they could be quite effective combat warriors with the right motivation.
“See those guys over there? They say your shoes make you look stupid.”
Well you certainly can't pull a Klinger and try to get a Section 8 by Cross-Dressing, heck today, you'd probably get a promotion for it.
The left has a solution for pregnancy...
She should be able to return to the battlefield within an hour.
Knew it was just a matter of time...
Oooooh, don’t go there on the shoes!
Just.
Don’t.
Go.
There.
:-P
Modern militaries seem to have little use for cannon fodder. Even Israel is selective and a high number of draft age men and women do meet standards.
Or yes that uniform makes you look fat.
Then you must be against the draft, too, as it doesn’t select against political viewpoints.
Wartime calls for extreme measures.
Want to change the voting habits of 18 year old women? Make them march down to the post office and sign up for the draft. Suddenly all of this “equality” talk isn’t as palatable and they will vote for the first candidate who declares there is a difference between men and women and that only men should sign up for the draft.
Fair is Fair, they wanted equality, this is what it means, and I do not want to hear it anymore, plus off topic time to start cracking down on alimony as well.
and in their period while lactating ...
I remember this coming up back in the 90s in my government class in high school. All the girls were saying that women deserve to be in the military fighting along side with men on the ground. One guy said that was fine as long as all the girls were okay with being on the draft. They all shut up after that because they want the option but not the responsibility.
THAT will do it! THAT will make millennial women understand what Feminism wants to do for them!
What are we defending Mark Milley? The right of elites to cheat on elections?
The rights of people like Hillary to put our intelligence people at risk - - 'leaking' secrets to our enemies? That's not worth dying for. Gimme a break General - elites aren't worth one American life - not man or women.
Tell me, what in hell are we defending?
In the old days it was our country. Today it's 'corrupt elites' and their big donor friends? That's who we're suppose to die for? Let the corrupt assh*les elites protect themselves.
Oh, I forgot. They are fighting for their survival. Our snow flakes fight for animal rights and free shit.
FU Milley.
They Israelis don’t put women on the front lines.
No problem.
