Weird things in Cedar Rapids
Supposedly, Meredith Willson was inspired by his hometown of Mason City, Iowa about 140 miles north of Cedar Rapids. Probably doesn't make any difference.
You know Paddy I think I saw America, the good part, the people who play by the rules, work hard, pay taxes, the proceedings began with prayer, and there was grass roots participation, and a general feeling of respect and good will. It was beautiful, and we were touched. Also I was stunned by how many turned out. Hw was yours?
Interesting
The Republican Party sucks soooo hard! Seriously, when they passed an envelope for donations I damn near spit in it. The whole caucus was a cluster with people handing out stacks of scrap paper with no controls. The Republican party can't run a caucus, its no wonder they continually fail to beat Democrats. And the Iowa caucus isn't even a caucus like the dems have. It is a poorly run primary that uses scrap paper instead of voting machines.
The Republican party sucks. Glad Cruz and Trump finished well. But the Republican Party sucks.
You really ought to give Iowa a try...
From # 7:
THIS WHOLE DAG-GONE DARN-PATOOTIN' THING IS RIGGED. The Republican candidate who wins is the one who CAN'T BEAT HILLARY. So, Ted Cruz it is! Oh yeah and he's ineligible to run, too! ... Double-whammy that ensures a Hillary or Bernie win.
“the overbearing bellboy “
Only laugh I’ve had, in this.
:)
Pray that your experience engulfs America...as we’re praying daily for America and churches to get back to Christ’s teachings!!
Blessings!
“It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see...”
“You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?”
“No,” said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, “nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”
“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”
“I did,” said Ford. “It is.”
“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t people get rid of the lizards?”
“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”
“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”
“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”
“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”
“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?”
“What?”
,thank you
This was my first caucus, I’d recently moved to CR from Omaha. It was neat in a lot of ways. They sang the national anthem and said the pledge. If the rest of the country did things like Iowa we would better off. Unfortunately the rest of the country is not like Iowa, and sorry to say Ted can’t win a general election against the media. He’s not strong enough. Trump is. I stood next to Ted for 5 minutes while he waited to speak, I shook his hand. His supporters were quiet and resolute. Before voting started I thought Rand Paul would do well because his supporters were so noisy. The people counting the votes handed in the totals and then saw they dropped 2 Rubio votes. It just seems to loosy goosy though.
Please take a deep breath, pull the knot out of your panties and have a seat. We have just started this ride.
I so wish we would go back to primary here in Nevada. The caucus is so very corrupt. Nevada voters end up disenfranchised.
If I remember correctly Cruz donated to EVERY single Iowa politician.
Yes it does. My usual precinct here is 4 miles away at the community center. This year I have to drive 15 miles to a grade school in another town.
I knew early on that Trump would lose. They announced on FBN that there were lines of traffic backed up trying to get to the venue. They also stated that they were running out of ballots and registration cards and this was at the start of the caucus. Come on, really? They said that they were not expecting such a heavy turnout. After the size of Trump’s rallys? Again, really? Add to that, Rubio’s big donor was Microsoft who counted the ballots.
Omaha? My son in law would love you he is here but from Baird Nebraska and is a big time Big Red fan...
Welcome to Iowa
OK ... I'll bite.
Was that an intentional pun?
Or just a "Conn job?"
Of course it wuz intentional. Few coincidences there are.
Kind of odd how your nailed your reaction with that cat photo. Yuge laughs!
