I was a fan of Kid Rock before most people my age knew who he was. Most people my age still don’t know who he is.

No. Those are “progressive rock” bands, except maybe Pink Floyd, and they aren’t alternative rock either.

In fairness, Kid Rock no longer does stuff like his "Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp" white trash rap albums. He's a transregion American who now self-identifies as a "rebel" who does "outlaw" music and likes to pretend like he's a "county boy" who has lived in Dixie all his life instead of northeast Michigan. In short, he's the Bruce Jenner and Rachel Dolezal of the music industry.
