When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative

When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is *Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative*

During Wednesday*s debate, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said his past support for the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts *was a mistake and I regret that*.

Cruz argued during CNN*s Reagan library debate that former President George W. Bush nominated Roberts *because it was the easier choice* and he wasn*t *willing to spend political capital to put a strong judicial conservative on the court.*

But as critics are pointing out, Cruz, who worked on the Bush campaign and later in the administration as a lawyer, was effusive in his praise of Roberts* nomination in 2005.

*John Roberts should be a quick confirm,* he wrote in the National Review.

*As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him,* Cruz said.

During the debate, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush defended his brother’s selection of Roberts, who has angered conservatives for upholding Obamacare, by saying broadly: *I think he is doing a good job.*

*You can rewrite history I guess Ted,* Bush said, *but the simple fact is, you supported him because he had all the criteria that you would have thought would have made a great justice. And I think he is doing a good job.*

But Roberts wasn’t our “mentor” and good friend, as he was Cruz’s.

What a complete GOPe stooge Cruz has been.

Helping Rand Paul filibuster the exact same time as the CR Obamacare vote in the House was the first tip off about Cruz for me.

I’d like to believe Roberts WAS a “conservative”.
He has been co-opted, bought, had a visit, threatened etc. As such he can no longer to be counted on.
It has happened to almost every politician that gets elected. Why not Supreme Court justices?

As I said before, I think Roberts is a real conservative.

I just think somebody has something on him or his kids which he cannot bring himself to allow to happen. Many seemingly good men have went down trying to protect family or reputation.

He goofed up. This would be of small concern if he showed an inclination to learn. Nobody’s perfect, everybody can learn.

The suicidally poisonous thing is to pose as some finished icon while still on earth.

He has said "it was a mistake and I regret it."

So exactly how is he unwilling to learn, and posing as a finished icon?

Cruz, like a lot of other conservatives, had Mike Luttig as their preference. But Bush did 't nominate him, and Roberts was considered to be a smart, reliable conservative. The alternative would have been votig against Roberts, which would have been absurd.

No, a real conservative would refuse to be blackmailed or intimidated into the scourge of Ocare.

Instead we got the lying theatrics of Roberts pretending to be fighting with Obama during the State of the Union and then his switched position on Ocare a few months later.

GOPe Uniparty conspirators.

Cruz vouched for Roberts to work the 2000 recount

Of course he did, Roberts clerked for the Supreme Court, he appeared before the court that was going to rule on the matter multiple times with outstanding success, he is a great legal advocate, he probably helped win the Gore versus Bush case.

calling him his “mentor and friend”. Evidently Ted Cruz, unlike Donald Trump, is capable of having friends as opposed to enemies or toadies.

Cruz lacks discernment and Roberts is a horrific red flag that Cruz is either not a good judge of character or a good Christian.

What an absurd remark

Plus, no Christian would pretend he didn’t know he was a Canadian citizen from birth until just a few months ago.

Are you a Christian, if you don't know for a fact that he was pretending you shouldn't be making the assertion? He may well not have known.

Cruz is a major GOPe shill

It's impossible to argue the matter with someone who overlooks party affiliation, money contributions, and protestations that the most scurrilous of Democrats like Hillary Clinton is Donald Trump's friend. What kind of discernment did take for Trump to invite Hillary to his wedding? But Cruz lacks discernment for working with Roberts on Bush versus Gore? [Only my Christian forbearance prevents me from adding "LOL"].

Cruz saying he’s sorry — or that he made a “mistake” — is meaningless theater. Roberts was his very very good friend.

Exactly, the Trumpeters will nit pic because that’s all they have and are too afraid to shine a light on their own messiah’s positions. Hey Trumpeters I think Ted Cruz once wore mismatched socks in grade school.

Trump isn’t advocating Hillary for SCOTUS — LOL

But as to Cruz’s Christianity — do you believe Cruz knew his Canadian birth would be an issue for people if he ran for President?

Exactly. Thank you for a rare moment of common sense and intelligence on free republic this year. I had no idea we were surrounded by such pettiness and ignorance. The cult worship is scary to watch.

However, I will still vote for Cruz over Trump in the primaries.

Prior to the Obamacare decision, we all though Roberts was an excellent Chief.

Cruz has done nothing constructive but lots of grandstanding and fake filibustering to get rid of Ocare.

His judgment call on Roberts is nightmarish.

Cruz has poor judgment and does not seem to work well under pressure. He is a great talker, so the gullible fall for his routine.

The Roberts pick was supported virtually unanimously among conservatives.
