When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative

When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is *Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative*

During Wednesday*s debate, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said his past support for the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts *was a mistake and I regret that*.

Cruz argued during CNN*s Reagan library debate that former President George W. Bush nominated Roberts *because it was the easier choice* and he wasn*t *willing to spend political capital to put a strong judicial conservative on the court.*

But as critics are pointing out, Cruz, who worked on the Bush campaign and later in the administration as a lawyer, was effusive in his praise of Roberts* nomination in 2005.

*John Roberts should be a quick confirm,* he wrote in the National Review.

*As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him,* Cruz said.

During the debate, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush defended his brother’s selection of Roberts, who has angered conservatives for upholding Obamacare, by saying broadly: *I think he is doing a good job.*

*You can rewrite history I guess Ted,* Bush said, *but the simple fact is, you supported him because he had all the criteria that you would have thought would have made a great justice. And I think he is doing a good job.*

From 2012:
In the below article it says Seven years ago...

That is a tremendous amount of time for things to change... Roberts either has been corrupted or blackmailed.
Regardless. I think it is fair to say he hasn't lived up to what Cruz thought of him.

It is quite silly to blame Cruz for not being able to predict the future.

John Roberts is No Longer Appearing on Conservative Merit Badges

Seven years ago, during the confirmation hearings for John Roberts, Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz penned a gushing op-ed for National Review.

-snip-

Not anymore. When Roberts helped save "Obamacare," Cruz immediately blasted the Court for having "abdicated its responsibility to safeguard the Constitution." He didn't mention Roberts by name, but he insisted that the decision was more proof that Republicans needed to reject Cruz's opponent, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. "My opponent is, by nature and by over a decade of political office, a conciliator. Now is not a time for conciliation."

So here is the condensed timeline:

1995 - While clerking for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, I and my two fellow law clerks asked the chief whom he thought was the best Supreme Court lawyer currently practicing. The chief replied, with a twinkle in his eye, that he thought he could probably get a majority of his colleagues to agree that John Roberts was the best Supreme Court advocate in the nation.
2000 - Cruz recruits Roberts to assist Bush team in Florida Recount for about a week.
July 20, 2005 -
Roberts Nominated For Supreme Court
July 20, 2005 - Ted Cruz writes article support roberts
August 4, 2005 - Drudge says new york times is investigating Roberts adoption papers

Apparently when the Democrats realized they could control a Supreme Court Justice’s vote through blackmail over his having committed a number of international crimes the Times pulled back and dropped its investigation. The Democrat paper of record pulled back because it didn’t want to ” break the seal of an adoption case” – as if violating laws ever means anything to Democrats in their quest for power. Keep in mind Barack Obama’s violation of his opponents “sealed” divorce records propelled him to a US Senate seat.

September 12, 2005 - Senate confirmation hearing began for Roberts. I have found no mention whatsoever of Roberts possible adoption problems, being brought up in the confirmation
September 30, 2005 - John Roberts Confirmed. All 55 Republicans, hallf of the Democrats and an independent voted Yes.

now skip forward 10 years later in the year 2015

June 20, 2015 - Chief Justice John Roberts broke with his three conservative colleagues on the Supreme Court and voted to uphold a key provision of the Affordable Care Act
June 29, 2015 - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says ......Roberts “put on an Obama jersey” in writing the majority opinion in the last two landmark court cases on Obamacare.
June 30, 2015 - “Mr. Cruz was so enraged by the health-care ruling — as well as last week’s decision, not supported by Mr. Roberts, upholding gay marriage — that Mr. Cruz is calling for a constitutional amendment that would require Mr. Roberts and other Justices to stand for election every 8 years.

How well do you know anyone you have briefly worked with?
How was Cruz supposed to know when he wrote his article of support that Roberts had a possible secret illegal adoption of children from Ireland, and that the Democrats had leverage for blackmail?

Now just what legal vehicle is there for cruz to take concerning that? Somebody with “STANDING” has to file the suit.

Talk about a stretch to the moon, a shill for Bush!!!! What turnip truck did you fall off of?

I don’t think so. I think we are seeing Cruz as Cruz. As the pressures of the campaign increase, Cruz is showing us who he really is. The curtain is being drawn aside. we are now seeing his “conservative schtick!”

Yep. Cruz is the biggest campaign conservative of them all. He’s the only career politican member of the “Washington Cartel” campaigning against it.

I think you are correct. Add that in with Heidi’s resume and a clearer picture is emerging of who cruz really is.

Cruz family makes millions and donate nothing basically. Goldman Sachs Values indeed.

Most in conservative circles were pleased with the Roberts nomination in 2005, especially after the Miers debacle.. so the castigating today of Cruz’ comment back then is laughable.

Lest you forget, the Beloved One with the funny hair isn’t exactly a paragon of Constitutional adherence.

Trump is the BEST. CHRISTIAN EVER. God's go-to man on matters of discernment. Of Carson he said:

So he's saying is that series of events. And he goes into the bathroom for a couple of hours and he comes out now he is religious. And the people of Iowa believe him. Give me a me a break, give me a break It doesn't happen that way. It doesn't happen that way. And some people might not like it 'oh that's not nice what you say' Don't be fools. Don't be fools, okay. "

How is that for discernment? The only reason Trump isn't God, is because he hasn't figured out a way to fire God.

Trump publicly denounced Carson's conversion, telling us it doesn't happen that way; to believe it would make us fools. I don't understand why he has the support of so Evangelicals, many of whom have had the same type of born again moment described by Carson.

Hold Trump to the same standards to which you hold Cruz. If you believe a lack of discernment about Roberts and a pretense about his nationality is something no Christian would do, what does Trump's arrogance tell you?

Here is the link. Watch the video.

EVERYONE was shocked by Roberts as SC justice. Remember all the threads here? His record before the appointment was pristine conservative.

When at work, can you spiritually discern the soul of another? Thank you Lord Yeshua Messhiah for being my defense lawyer when I stand before your throne of judgment.

Analyzing GOPe/Uniparty collusion regarding how John Roberts got to the bench is an important step in beating the GOPe in 2016.

The only “outrageous departure from sanity” I see here is an unwillingness to realize conservatives have been duped for decades by the same GOPe thugs — and it’s only reasonable to try to figure out Cruz’s part in the Bush decision making.

Wake up. It’s time to vet Cruz, Rubio and Jeb the same way Palin was vetted.

Uh, yes. Of course God gives discernment. He tells us to pray for wisdom ala Solomon in terms of our workplace most especially.

Unfortunately, with Cruz I’m raising this point rhetorically.

Thanks for your research.

But I’m sorry, a good man would fess up to an illicit adoption for the sake of the nation.

There is something much more evil at work here. Something more along the lines of the Bush Administration funding Planned Parenthood for the entire eight years.

This thread has nothing to do with Trump, it has to do with people like me, lifetime Republicans and conservatives, who have been tricked, lied to, defrauded and spit upon by the GOPe.

Roberts’ Ocare decision is the crowning achievement of the GOPe Uniparty, and Cruz had an enormous part in it.

Cruz needs to be vetted on all of this. Sorry. He needs to be vetted the same way Palin was vetted.

If Cruz is not GOPe, I will humbly apologize and do so publicly but I think he is in bed with the Rove Bush GOPe.

Either way, if we sit by and pretend that Roberts was a small thing - or not some GOPe kabuki theater — we deserve what the GOPe Unipartiers devise for us next.

What Judicial decision by Roberts indicated he would be a lib SC Justice?

IMO Obama and his thugs have dirt on Roberts and are blackmailing him with it.

But I know of NO DECISION he made that indicated he was anything but a conservative.

We know that Trump thinks his sister would be “Great” we KNOW his sister wrote a decision defending Partial Birth Abortion.

What does THAT say about Trump?

Didn’t Ronald Reagan appoint Trump’s sister to the bench?

Why does this devolve into a thread about Trump?

Trump is one answer to the scourge of the GOPe for conservatives, and my answer, but conservatives are mighty stupid to keep playing ball with the GOPe through 2016 if we can’t even try to analyze and dissect how we got a “conservative” Obamacare decision.

To say “he was blackmailed” is not enough. You have to know what the enemy is doing in order to beat them.

Yeah he was the only one to fall for that I'm sure.

I'm also sure Trump had Roberts pegged because he's been so right on critiquing Scalia with liberal talking points.

All Trump needs to do is tell his followers he knew......they'll believe him.

“a good man would fess up to an illicit adoption for the sake of the nation.”

A good man wouldn’t cheat on his wives and brag about it...

In The Art of the Deal, Trump boasted about bedding other men’s wives.

“If I told the real stories of my experiences with women, often seemingly very happily married and important women, this book would be a guaranteed best-seller,” he wrote.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/01/27/christians-cringe-at-donald-trump-s-sexy-past.html

Trump says his own personal ‘indiscretions’ - including cheating on his first wife - are fair game in politics

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3378905/Trump-says-personal-indiscretions-including-cheating-wife-fair-game-politics.html#ixzz3yvTHEeRZ

So again how would Cruz know that Roberts had this secret?

It is about Trump because trumpbots are attacking Cruz with Roberts.

BTW it is especially ironic that they would use Roberts in this way, since Trump want a wonderful single payer system “like Scotland” according to Trump in the first debate.
