Blizzard Watch
Statement as of 3:48 AM CST on January 31, 2016
... Blizzard watch in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night...
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a blizzard watch... which is in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night.
* Timing... snow will lift into the area late Monday night into Tuesday morning. A brief break in the snow may occur before resuming Tuesday afternoon and night. A period of very heavy snow may occur with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. Strong and gusty northeast winds will develop by Tuesday and will create considerable blowing and drifting of snow and potential whiteout conditions.
* Storm total snow... storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected within the heaviest band of snow.
* Winds/visibility... northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts in excess of 40 mph. Visibilities in snow and blowing snow will be below one quarter mile with whiteout conditions possible.
* Impacts... extremely hazardous travel conditions may develop. Travel may become nearly impossible at times. If you have travel plans during this time... consider alternative plans.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.
According to what I’ve read, each local caucus has the same “weight” in the final results. Therefore, a high turnout in a few areas, with a large number of votes for Bernie, doesn’t benefit him much overall.
The Dems and the GOP do their presidential straw poll very differently.
The article I’m recalling vaguely was definitely about the Democrat caucuses.
Sounds like AlGore scheduled another Global Warming conference in IOWA. That man is Magic.
lol...no kidding.
Wow...some tough folks up there. I would not wish this weather on them but some folks love it.
Well, most of us don’t particularly love it. But we learned how to live with it. lol...
Maybe God is intervening in the Iowa Caucus.
He always maintains the Divine Veto.
“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God Governs in the affairs of men.”
— Benjamin Franklin
Very true. There are several occasions in the Revolutionary war that seem to be like that where the British would have won but for some very opportune and unusual weather occurring at exactly the time that the Continental Army needed it.
Yeah, no doubt.
I guess the people who got a creepy mailer from Cruz now have a really good excuse for not showing up.
Divine intervention?
Lol...”This is why God created hot chocolate...”
Both my brothers had the polar bear blood. They live in places that are freezing In the winter. I took off back home South as soon as I could.

...Delegates shall be bound to the candidates in direct proportion to the candidates’ respective vote shares in the Iowa Caucuses regardless of whether any such candidate has withdrawn from the race or otherwise does not have his or her name placed in nomination at the Republican National Convention...
:-)
Des Moines only expecting 2-4” snow by Tuesday AM drive time. That won’t affect the caucuses at all. Sun is out right now.
Yep. It’s a gorgeous day in NW Iowa as well.
