Every time we’re told a candidate will appeal to Democrats and moderates like Romney or McCain, they lose.

How many times are we going to go down this path?

The candidate who wins is always the one who excites the base. That’s why Obama won. The mushy undecided voters simply follow along with wherever the excitement is like lemmings. They assume that if someone really likes a candidate, then that candidate must be good, and they can’t figure out on their own which candidate is good.

They’re not high. He appeals to a minority/plurality of Republicans in the primary. He and Jeb do the worst in polls against Hillary and Sanders. That’s been shown consistently, over and over. He is apparently the most unappealing candidate we have to everyone else besides a minority/plurality of our party.

Trump now has 35 to 40% support in the GOP, but high negatives among the Republicans who are not in that 35 or 40%.

Can he win a majority of delegates at this rate? What if the minor candidates drop out and their supporters rally behind one person, say Rubio, and the race continues with Trump at 35%, Cruz at 33, and Rubio at 32. Can Trump get enough delegates that way to be the nominee?

Trump's tactic of undermining his opponents with insults may work in the short run, but if he did get the nomination, would the people now supporting those other candidates forgive him his tactics or refuse to vote for him? In the latter case the Democrat wins easily. Likewise if Trump doesn't get the nomination and refuses to back the nominee, or does like Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 (run as an independent)...the Democrat wins.

To the contrary once an ordinary, decent American becomes acquainted with the facts of Donald Trump's biography, his associations with the Mafia, his employment of illegal aliens, his smearing politicians with (legal) bribes, his association with the fight game, wrestling (wrestling!), failed football, beauty pageants, gambling, and God knows what else, that decent American will recoil in disgust.

When the public learns of Donald Trump's fraudulent Trump University, of the real facts behind his bankruptcies, of his deceits concerning the shoddy quality of his construction, of his frankly cruel treatment of elderly tenants whom he sought to dispossessed so he could convert their apartments, they will begin to understand that Donald Trump is a selfish and cruel individual.

When the public learns that virtually every project Donald Trump has undertaken has resulted in lawsuits by ex-partners or customers who claim they've been defrauded, the public will hesitate to put this man in the most powerful job in the world where he can defraud a whole nation.

When the public comes to understand all of this, as the Democrats will make certain, the idea that decent Americans should vote for Trump because somebody else is just as bad will have no appeal. Democrats don't care about virtue but Republican voters do and they will stay home in droves, as will independents, rather than participate in electing such a man.

See, I see him as a successful businessman who is also a multi millionaire/billionaire. A man who has many successful children who worked for their success given their upbringing. A man who took what he was given by this father and worked to make it even more successful and raised his kids to do the same. He didn’t acquire his wealth on the government teat. A man who says what he says and means it no matter who it offends and who owes no one anything. I sorta like that about him.

That’s what I know about him. He’s not a politician. He’s someone who has had to work with politicians and unions and government regulations in order to succeed. He sure ain’t perfect but I don’t expect perfection. I expect someone who loves this country as much as I do and has the means to do something about that.

Again, I like him. Way more than I liked any other candidate other than Reagan. I sorta like Rubio and I have a soft spot for Santorum. Santorum has no shot so he’s out.

Bush and Hillary shouldn’t even be running and it’s awful that they are. They are on par with the Kennedy family.

Don't know what's true at this point, but judging from conversations I've had with democrats, they think anyone other than Kasich is too ‘unreasonable’. My point is that even though elections are something of a popularity contest, I don't think a Republican can win by trying guess how to be ‘popular’. I think you have to stand for something, and hope that you can excite enough people about what you stand for that you will receive sufficient votes to win.

Trump has done well because he turns ridicule right back around at those who try to ridicule. He definitely engenders hate from some, but many of these were motivated by hatred and resentment to begin with.

When I say “Trump is just not a likable man. He is childish, petty, amoral and downright mean. He seems to be a very miserable man”, I say this solely on observation of the man. He does come off nasty the way insults people, calls names and carries on public feuds. This I believe is why he is at 60% unfavorable.

I see no similarities between Trump and Reagan. Although I was only 9 when Reagan ran in 1980, but it was that election when I started paying attention to politics and learning about the Presidents. In 1980 Reagan was calm, warm, articulate and friendly. He won over a lot of doubters with the way he carried himself in that election and successfully made the case for himself and the case against Jimmy Carter and he won big.

There is no doubt about Donald Trumps success in life. Everyone knows that. But if he wants to be President he needs to grow up and stop acting like a celebrity and more like leader. He doesn’t instill in me any confidence that he will be a serious leader with the way he behaves. Basically I don’t feel he has the temperament nor the maturity to be President.

Although I support Cruz, I do believe, barring a major incident, that Trump will trounce through the primaries and most likely be the nominee.

I don’t see Hillary being indicted as the Clintons always “get away with it” so expect her to be nominated.

If it is Clinton vs Trump it will a race between highly unlikable people and anything can happen. It will probably be a very a close race that comes down to VA, OH, FL and CO which Trump will have to win all to be elected.

That’s not true. He is quite likeable. Many people who know him say he’s a great guy and very kind and also fun. After every rally, he goes into the crowd and talks to people. He always makes time for people. There are many many stories. He also seems happy and his family are also charming. Here in FL he is at 48%, way over everyone else including especially a former governor who was popular, and a sitting senator who is popular. He will win Florida.

Currently, Donald Trump has a higher unfavorability rating than any nominated candidate from either major political party since Gallup began tracking favorability in 1992.

It actually doesn’t matter . all that matters is how many do like him and will be motivated to get out and vote for him. People want someone to vote for. And Trump’s people are motivated.

But why? That's the mystery. It's hard to think of a single redeeming quality of Trump.
