The Iowa secretary of State on Saturday rebuked Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruzâs controversial use of a mailer to encourage turnout at the Feb. 1 caucuses.
âToday I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the roll of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law,â Paul Pate said in a statement released by his office.

Ouch! Ted gets his hands slapped! And the best Jedi can come up with is everybody else is doin’ it! How old are you? It was a stupid stunt to pull in Iowa! It has gotten a very bad reaction and it is going to hurt his efforts there. It is not the kind of thing that you expect from a conservative who said he doesn’t believe in the government interfering in people’s lives.
The Cruz campaign strapped on a suicide vest with those mailers and *supporters* like you are helping tailor-fit it.
Well .. looks like Daddy is going to have to do a little reprimanding to his underlings.
Time to shake the tree and see what falls out.
I can guarantee you it won’t be a conservative. This is about the 3rd such event .. and Cruz better plug the hole very quickly.
I want to know who’s brilliant idea it was to do the mailer in the first place. Remember, Cruz may know the Constitution, but he is not required to know all the laws of each state .. election or otherwise.
Is candidate Cruz going to address this situation or continue hiding behind Steve King?
It’s a get out the vote effort. Of course you’re trying to influence people’s lives. You need to acknowledge the reality of campaigns. I am looking at research that says the mailers work so I’m not going to second guess the campaign. I would have not approved it at least in that exact format myself but I’m not a marketing expert.
I disagree with the over-the-top outrage. Again, if the mailer was sent to EVERYBODY in Iowa, then you would be right. It was just sent to a targeted group who they expect it to work on as a motivator.
Yeah......no. Mark Twain definitely could have come up with this one. Obama as president...no.
Is this a joke? Trump is the one who told Fox & Friends he wants the NSA listening in on phone calls and wants to try Snowden for treason. Cruz was one who voted for rolling back the NSA surveillance program based on constitutional violations.
Great motivator!
To top it off, if the mailer was developed and paid for by one of his PACs, and his campaign spokesman acknowledged responsibility for it, there would be prima facie evidence to open a Federal investigation.
You have a picture of one from some other Republican presidential campaign?
Oh, I’m sure it will succeed in motivating people. Of that I have no doubts.
Wow, did you read what you just wrote?
This isn't target marketing to a select group to purchase xyz widgets, this is an attempt to reveal those who do not.
Cruz should have at least kept it anonymous/general, but he revealed names.
Sorry, Steve King went ice fishing. I'll have him call you when he gets back.
Stupid is as stupid does
“You need to acknowledge the reality of campaigns. I am looking at research that says the mailers work”
Utterly pathetic.
You guys were saying earlier today that they were fake or a trick from Trump.
Now, since you know that it was from Cruz, and you are so fanatically for him that dissent is next to sin, you now say you are so happy he did this and isn’t a big deal.
Ha! +1
Alaska voters upset about public-shaming mailers, but experts say they work
Vote ... Or Else! Why Are Outside Groups Scaring Voters To The Polls?
I'd expect that since the Governor said they had to defeat Cruz (because Cruz said he'd get rid of the ethanol mandate).
I wonder who the evil genius was who came up with the mailing, and if they were one of the ones who walked out.
“Today I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the roll (sic) of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law,”
The word is “role” unless his office is rotating. Maybe it is. The Iowa GOP establishment from the Gov down is in the Trump camp.
