Ted Cruz Shares Intimate Details of His Faith Journey
Charismanews ^ | 1/28/16

After my dad became a Christian, we all moved together to Houston. And seeing the amazing transformation in her husband, my mom became a Christian within a year as well. Thus, by age 4, I was blessed to be being raised in a Christian home with two strong (but new) believers as parents.

I was raised in the church. Each night, my dad would read with me from our children's Bible. We'd memorize Bible verses, and compete to see who could do the best. We'd act out scenes from the Old Testament. We attended Clay Road Baptist Church, pastored by the same Brother Gaylon Wiley who had led my father to the Lord.

When I was 8 years old, I went to our church's summer camp, along (with) my cousin Bibi. At the invitation, tears streaming down my face, Bibi and I both walked down and gave our lives to Jesus.

And it changed my life. To have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, to know that God's only Son died to pay for my sins, that I was fallen that I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, nothing is more important to me. I am a new creature in Christ, and it central to who I am today.

I couldn't run for president without relying heavily on my faith. When I have doubts, He comforts me. When I am weak, He gives me strength.

-snip-

When I fight to defend religious liberty, it's not purely a constitutional matter; it's a lifelong passion and personal commitment.

Yes. It is. It is an unbeliever deserting a believer, iirc.

Would a believer desert his/her spouse?

I was thinking originally of the passage in 1 Corinthians 7:11 in which Paul certainly appears to sanction separation for two believers, but commands that it must either result in celibacy or reconciliation. It looks like Paul’s acknowledgment that sometimes cohabitation isn’t working—as with the abusive spouse you mentioned. But if there is no adultery or desertion involved, then separation appears to be the Scriptural remedy.

“I’ve been here longer that you, Red. Sell your sanctimonious bilge for your fellow sheep. I’m sure they are more than willing to lap it up. Pinging the list of e-thugs doesn’t silence me about the FRAUD you’re pushing here.

I have family on the Wall...served while your candidate was getting “medical” deferments to avoid it and compared his “prep school playboy” years to their sacrifice.”

First of all, her husband served in Vietnam and he is now no longer with us, so she too has “family on the wall,” as do I.
Secondly, what she shares here isn’t “BILGE” just because it doesn’t comport with your view. It is also NOT FRAUD to make comments here, and those of us who do not share your view of things are not “SHEEP!”
Lastly, while I think that having good moral values (like most Christians), helps one to decide whom to support, it isn’t a “litmus test” for a lot of voters. We are looking to elect a leader for our country, not a Pope, Pastor, Rabbi, etc.
You would do well, as a Christian, to show your Christian values in the way that you speak to the rest of us. Right now, in my view you aren’t doing very well in that regard. Why not try a little humility. You get more with a lump of sugar than you do with a club!

For the most part, I agree with you.

However, I’ve never been able to reconcile forced to stay in a truly abusive relationship with a requirement of God. Had an acquaintance whose father told her, “You’ve made your bed; now you’ve got to lie in it.” Her abusive husband took the cake. I won’t get into it, he could have been a Law & Order episode.

So, I see in the 1 Corinthians passage an actual biblical allowance of DISSOLUTION of marriage...no longer bound. I’ll have to answer to God someday, I suppose, if I’m wrong, because I’m also a minister and I’ve shared those thoughts in public.

May the Lord have mercy.

Sorry for your loss. My uncle and his best friend were KIA, both died while saving others. I know several others who’s lives were never the same because of Kennedy and Johnson’s mishandling of the war, but I don’t call them warmongers or would join Hanoi Jane in trying them for “war crimes” as a Trump supporter recently spammed to me the other day.

I take their service and sacrifice very seriously. I do not take kindly to some snobbish elitist saying ‘someone is not being a hero because they were captured’ and endured years of torture and abuse. There are many differences with McCain politically, but that was absolutely horrendous. As were his repeated “medical” deferments, comparing his prep school to military service, “Bush should be impeached for Iraq”, “I support heroes who were not captured”, and keeping the veteran out of his neighborhood.

I see through the thin veneer that is Donald Trump’s military support and offensive use of veterans as campaign props. Sorry if you chose to take anything critical of your candidate as a personal slight.

1Corinthians 7:11 precisely doesn’t force a woman to stay in an abusive relationship. It allows separation, just not divorce. Which agrees with you completely. God hates divorce, but does not require a woman to remain in an unsafe situation,

Very true. I am reminded of Romans 1:22- Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four footed animals and crawling creatures (it goes further into what is going on today- homos).

Oh he is someone to keep an eye on when you have a cookie jar. I just find him to be a sociopath. I am waiting for the big shoe to drop and i know it will. I am glad that you are trying to be a better person. I typically am a decent person but with politics, “all is fair in love and war”. It is too important for this country to be nice right now. And if I am wrong about Cruz then i guess I will have to figure that out later with God, but I honestly don’t believe I am wrong at all.

You are referring to Trump during Vietnam I believe. Let me state that a man born in June of 46 most likely graduated college in 68 if he went 4 years straight. Trump would have had 1 S deferments while in college. I served in that war and damn near bought the farm, but; I hold no ill will against a man with 1 S and then maybe he got a medical deferment in 68 after college graduation. I believe after 69 or so they changed to a lottery and picked numbers? I can tell you my old man, a colonel, got a call from a doctor he knew from his hometown about Jan 67 as I was on leave seeing my family prior to INF OCS at Benning. In short the MD wanted help for his son who was just drafted. Well my dad got him sent to Germany after basic and advanced, and; he missed the war, Next, one of my uncles in upstate NY called and the old man got his son exempted as they owned an apple orchard in upstate NY near where I was born. With the money Trump had, plus his family, he was no different then many who made calls like the ones to my father at Fort Monroe, VA. That was CONARC back then and Unit Training and Readiness was their plus much more. With the money he had he could have got a reserve or NG assignment in the city or close by. Calling in a favor like folks did with my old man did was easier. That was the norm back then for those with money. I recall my college English Prof in 65. He had an assignment for us to write in favor of or against involvement in RVN. I made the wrong decision and that was a D. At least Trump is raising money for a cause other then himself.

And I believe in Trump. It is easy to just disagree and be done with it.

I have read 5 deferments, but the number doesn’t matter. I think some of his statements are disingenuous about “support”, much like other areas he claims to support now while being against a short time ago. The whole thing seems a publicity stunt given his background for the absurd.

He has legitimate deferments for each year in College. Were you in college back then and/or in Vietnam? I was. One America News is carrying it live. A fellow SF man who lost his leg is speaking. He was with 15 SF types who killed 200 Taliban.

Using veterans as political props to avoid the “unfair” treatment is disgusting. It was his plan to avoid the debate to prop up his sagging poll numbers. Certainly a Clinton strategy...avoid and deflect.

Using Veterans? BS. Trump raised 6 million for Iowa Vets.It was live on One America News.I watched it.You do not know what the hell you are talking about. Trump had Vets speak to include an SF man who lost his leg while he and 14 other Spec Ops killed 200 Taliban in six hours. This man thought he and every pal would be killed., plus other Vets were on the stage speaking from Iowa, and; he has the best damn plan for Vets health care of any candidate. I asked about you about your service and you failed to reply. So I take it you did not. Under Trump any Vet eligible for VA care can go to any MD, hospital, clinic, etc. that accepts Medicare. For me that means I do not have to drive a hour to the only VA with a pain clinic in middle, TN. I can go to Vanderbilt or any other place I want under Trump. Yes, a few of you Cruz types do not look past Cruz’ BS that has you baffled.. Here is Trumps site that explains how Vets will be treated and the VA cleaned up plus we can go anywhere that Medicare is accepted. Cruz damn sure can’t touch this. Cruz wants to give to Vets but with a condition. Same with Fiorina. Both Santorum and Huckabee showed up with no strings attached as both wanted to help Iowa Vets. Yes, this was for Iowa vets. Trump does and has done a lot for other people. He does not blow his horn like Cruz about every damn little detail.
