Hollow or not, Donald Trump's threat to boycott the final GOP forum before Iowa votes has complicated Ted Cruz's game plan, forcing the Texan to prepare for two different debates -- one in which he tangles directly with the front-runner and another that sets up the senator as the largest target on stage.
With hours until debate time, Cruz's campaign still says it thinks Trump's pledge to skip the forum is a stunt. "Donald Trump will be at the debate," Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler Tyler predicted. "Mark my words."

BOOM !
Rubio has his sights on Cruz while Bush goes after Rubio.
They’ll be bashing Trump and then turn on Cruz. He’s the other lead dog and he’ll be there to respond.
Who will the Muslim girl get to attack? Or the illegal alien?
And this is FOX news doing this. You think this is a conservative network?
Wow, wonder if this was a consideration for Trump. They all go after the frontrunner who is now Cruz.
Good luck, Teddy.
This is exactly right and part of why Trump is so brilliant. In one fell swoop he sets up Ted Cruz to take the bulk of the debate flak. It’s a gambit for Trump...if Cruz does well and dominates he might go up in the polls. If everyone else gets the better of him then it worked.
>> Theyâll be bashing Trump and then turn on Cruz. Heâs the other lead dog and heâll be there to respond.
Ted will do just fine. He has the brains and ability to handle the challenge.
If they bash Trump now it will seem like they only have courage to bash him behind his back.
We’ve had 6 debates and nobody laid a finger on Trump.
You think this is a conservative network?
FoxNews never considered itself a conservative network, nor a republican one. That mantra was actually started by the left. To the left, center is far right.
If you thought FoxNews was a republican/conservative network, that was mistake number one.
Just because they give airtime to conservatives (unlike CNN and MSNBC) it does not mean they are a conservative network.
Exactly .. Teddy is already scared because he can’t ride Trumps coattails anymore .. Trump just set up FOX to take out Teddy ... Trump is absolutely Machiavellian .. no wonder the Dims are panicking
FNC lost their most loyal viewer tonight. O’Reilly was insufferable, begging Trump to come back like a jilted boyfriend. Disgusting. Then their “contributors” talked about what a mistake it was for Trump to walk away from a Muslim/illegal alien set-up. And FNC had a protocol to use in case they had to “escort Trump” off the stage??? The same protocol they would use for the other boys? FNC is no better than MSNBC...
If they all were smart they would ALL go after Trump while he is not there to respond.
(although I am betting he will be tweeting during the debate)
But they are all as dumb as rocks and will attack each other and Cruz and in the process hand Trump the nomination on a silver platter.
I hate to even say this... (since I want Trump to win at this point). But a total mea culpa by Cruz in particular at the debate about how he was bambozzled by Trump and manipulated into helping legitimizing him and a point by point articulation of all of Trumps many flip flops by Cruz followed up by each and every one of the others piling on with Trump not able to respond or interrupt, MIGHT be very effective at hurting Trump.
I don’t expect this to happen and it’s probably laughable to even think anyone with power would see this post and get everyone on board with such a plan, but it seems obvious to me this is their last opportunity to really inflict some damage on Trump before voting begins.
Politico, politico? Since when has this website taken its head out of it derriere?
Actually, some of the best coverage of the primary so far has been Morning Joe of all places. Trump was on there the other day for a whole half hour in the enemy’s den and came out smelling like a rose. I think Mika actually might end up voting Trump in the general. Apparently, she bet Gasparino a brand new truck that Trump would win the primary and she was picking the color.
It is a very smart move by Trump. While everyone else is saying they must be there, Trump calculates what happens if I announce I won’t be there and don’t show up?
I agree.
Hopefully the biggest loser will be FOX news
Whoa... I remember old Joe from his days in Congress when he appeared nearly nightly with Geraldo or Chris Matthews and it was all about him...his vote, his thoughts, his “growth”, and especially his guitar-playing and you could tell he wanted to be in front of the camera all the time. Never thought he had much else to offer (which is why all my liberal girlfriends watch him in the morning and, because they think he’s a Republican, they are “above it all” and are therefore him informed than FNC people).
