Maybe Trump will hold that lead over the next few days, who knows? As a perpetual reminder, Rick Santorum trailed in Iowa by 15 points a week before he won the caucuses in 2012, so it's very smart to assume that things could change dramatically.
But polling often does a poor job of predicting one of the most important aspects of what will happen on the night of the caucuses: Who will turn out and for whom. I've been on a bit of a kick to this effect for a few days now, but I can't reinforce it enough. If Trump or Cruz can't get their people to the polls, an easy race can become a close race and a close race can become a disaster.

Sanctorum’s Iowa campaign manager in 2012 and Trump’s Iowa campaign manager in 2016 are the same person.

No matter how many times he contacts me, im not giving him my account number. I kinda smell a rat. It’s like that.
My suspicion is that Trump does not want to get to close to the voters in Iowa because of his already demonstrated ignorance of biblical Christianity - so he trumped up this ‘war’ with Fox so that he could blame them for his poor showing in Iowa - and bypass the fact that the voters might just see through him.
I get emails from Cruz about once a week asking for money.
I haven’t gotten a single email from Trump asking for money.
So I guess Cruz has contacted me and Trump hasn’t. But Trump has my support.
