The chief executive of one of the nation's largest coal producers, Murray Energy, made an emotional call Wednesday for steep cuts in state mining taxes to support an industry in free fall.
Raising his voice frequently during a 38-minute speech, Robert Murray blasted politicians for "platitudes and lip service" as the coal industry sheds thousands of jobs and producers go bankrupt. He called on state leaders to drop the coal severance tax from 5 to 2 percent, saying coal has paid more than its fair share to West Virginia already.
"These government officials can no longer say that they support coal people in this state" if they don't, Murray told the West Virginia Coal Mining Symposium. ...

I SUSPECT, but do now know that dem voting coal miners and dem voting coal producers, and dem voting coal owners, in dem voting WV have brought all of this on themselves, but am willing to listen to those in the know.
I thought this was Obama’s plan.
I’m afraid it’s “Mission Accomplished” for Obama. No company at this point is going to build a billion-dollar coal-fired power plant, with a expected lifetime of 25-50 years knowing full well that it could be subject to instant doom every four years at the whim of Democrats.
Something big is coming. Politicians don’t seem to give a damn what anyone thinks. Maybe they know an asteroid will hit in a few months. Whatever is coming Obama will suspend elections.
US Senator Joe Manchin is a donkey. You get what you voted for.
That’s where all that money Hillary and bubba are hiding in the Clinton foundation. Not to mention all the debt this country has racked up in the past 20 years.
It’s to built underground living space when an asteroid strikes.
See. “Deep Impact”
Tin foil hat off....
HAHAHA!!
No they didn’t.
WV went for Romney in 2012.
All their Congressmen are R’s
Their senators are 1R plus Manchin - who has been trying to be as close to R as he can.
More important, as all their problems are regulatory, WV went Republican in every Presidential election since 2000.
None of that did them any good.
Interesting...
Thank you.
Donald Trump will save coal. He will save the jobs. He will bring back coal jobs. Donald Trump will raise the dead jobs and heal the miners.
“Donald Trump will save coal. He will save the jobs. He will bring back coal jobs. Donald Trump will raise the dead jobs and heal the miners.”
You’re right, he will. Go Trump!
Thing about coal, like all extractive industries, is that the coal is still there. If it needs to be mined and if its permitted to be mined, someone will come by presently to do it again.
Its not that difficult to bring back coal jobs - all that’s needed is to change the interpretation of various regulations by the EPA. No legal changes, no laws need be passed.
Coal can break even at a much lower price per BTU than Natural Gas, if steam plant costs, driven by regulatory compliance, can be controlled.
So you’re not all that wrong here.
This really is “stroke of a pen” situation.
Wishful thinking.
The good news is the coal isn’t going anywhere. Eventually it will return once natural gas prices are through the roof again.
Vote other (Constitution Party candidate TBA)
Sorry wrong post.
Corrective action #1: Never, ever vote for another rat.
Think Robert Byrd. WV elected him many many times and he screwed them.
